About Ample:

Are you ready to make a global impact? Ample, inc. is a cutting-edge electric vehicle battery swapping company at the forefront of sustainable transportation solutions. Our mission is to accelerate the global transition to clean and efficient mobility by revolutionizing the way EVs are powered. At Ample, we utilize advanced robotics to enable rapid and cost-effective modular battery swapping, making powering your electric car as convenient as a gas station visit. Our passionate team of technologists, designers, and environmental advocates is dedicated to addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our era. Join Ample and be part of our mission to make this accessible to billions of vehicles worldwide.

About the Role:

At Ample, you'll be part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the world. Our commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge technology offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of transportation. We value diversity, innovation, and collaboration, and we provide a supportive work environment where your ideas can thrive. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Ample Swapping Station team, you'll be working with a creative team of people across mechanical, electrical and software domains to ensure our systems are safe and reliable. You have the ability to take an abstract problem and break it down into an implementable system - starting with a scrappy approach and progressively building it up into a sophisticated solution.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Swapping Team engineers to brainstorm, design, and develop static and dynamic systems that include custom mechanical and electrical components.
  • Independently 3D model custom parts, assemblies, and integrate off-the-shelf components using SolidWorks, and prepare part drawings with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for downstream manufacturing support.
  • Assemble and validate first-of-its-kind static or dynamic assemblies to verify design metrics, hand calculations, and simulation results.
  • Document design future improvements and recommendations such as DFM, ease of assembly, and addition of features to enhance the performance of the initial prototype.
  • Document future design improvements and constructive recommendations, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM) techniques, ease of assembly, and feature addition to enhance the performance of the initial prototype.
  • Participate in design meetings and offer constructive feedback outside of assigned tasks and/or projects, with the aim to enhance the ongoing designs of the Swapping Team.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field in the final year of study.
  • Demonstrable extracurricular experience in team projects outside of coursework. Proven record of success in SAE, engineering/robotics competitions, or side projects is a plus.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, including part and assembly modeling, and skilled in GD&T drawing creation. Previous design experience of assemblies with 50+ custom parts is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with basic hand tools required for product assembly.
  • A proven understanding of manufacturing techniques, including CNC machining, sheet metal forming, injection molding, welding, and additive manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills through successful competition or project work.
  • Enjoys versatility, adaptability, and is able to take the initiative to tackle complex tasks with agility working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must submit a portfolio in order for their application to be considered.

We are an Equal Opportunity and E-verified Employer and promote cultural diversity.
