Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to work in our National Security Solutions department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position.
The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified material testing engineer in Mechanical Engineering. The engineer will engage in harvesting published mechanical data; designing, getting approvals, and building a variety of mechanical testing using mechanical load frames, Split Hopkinson Pressure Bars, Taylor guns, and other high strain rate equipment; improve our capability to characterize and model these materials using finite element analysis (FEA) on high performance computing (HPC) systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Complying with laboratory policies, standards, and procedures and meeting security requirements
Maintaining productive work assignments for self and others
Research staff for ensuring hazards are understood
Working with multiple stakeholders for maintaining training qualifications, working within authorized scope, being compliant with established hazard mitigation, and following lab-wide work control processes.
Completing all research tasks within scope, documenting work and meeting periodic reporting requirements/milestones as well as ensuring quality of work and identifying opportunities for improvement
Maintaining and enhancing expertise and maintaining a clean workspace
Meet all security and quality requirements for computational solution development and deployment
Enforcing the balance between the "need to know" with the "responsibility to provide" required for INL compliance, resource allocation, risk management, and project execution.
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
Possess a minimum overall 3.0 Grade Point Average
Have the ability to pass a background check
1+ years of experience with HPC and FEA
1+ years of experience with Abaqus, Matlab, Python, and Fortran.
Willingness to travel periodically to interact with customers or to attend conference
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
Salary Grade: PR0100 - 200 ($83,412 - $137,592)
