Job Responsibilities
- Complete and release design and documentation changes required to maintain and optimize an existing product offer.
- Support Engineers with the analysis and resolution of problems using methodical problem-solving techniques (e.g. 5 Whys) and tools (e.g. Fishbone Diagram).
- Oversee development and maintenance of the product definition file:
- Work collaboratively on cross-functional teams to address quality, performance, and productivity objectives.
- Update Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents to reflect product design changes.
- Utilize in-house prototyping build (3D Printing, etc.) and laboratories (CMM, 3D Scanning, etc.) to prove design concepts.
- Coordinate prototypes builds at local model shop and assess concept’s mechanical performance.
Desired Qualifications
- Technical degree (AAS or BS) in a Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant design experience in mass production industry.
- Experience with design of ferrous and nonferrous metal components, thermoset and thermoplastic components, etc …
- Familiar with manufacturing processes (e.g. metal stamping, thermoset/thermoplastic molding, etc …).
- Familiar with Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly techniques.
- Training or experience in the following areas:
Expectations
- Able to work efficiently under the pressure of tight deadlines on high visibility assignments.
- 5-10% travel to manufacturing facilities and/or customer sites.
- Willing to occasionally work non-standard hours to address critical business issues or to accommodate team members in other time zones.
