AdvanSix has a multidiscipline in-house design and engineering department experienced in developing and executing capital projects for our internal customers. This team is nested with the project management/project controls/construction groups providing direct collaboration and participation individually and on teams.
As part of our Design team, you will work in collaboration with Senior Designers, Engineers, project managers, operations, procurement, maintenance, and engineers in the development of projects to strengthen our business. On project teams you will collaborate directly with stakeholders on projects to improve reliability, productivity, safety, and environment.
Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision, the Mechanical Designer 3 is responsible for supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects with activities including assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages.
Work is typically performed in the office and field.
Key Responsibilities/Accountability:
- Create and review equipment drawings and layouts, 3D model designs for equipment and piping installation drawings such as but not limited to pumps, compressors, tanks, blowers, fans, etc.
- Fully understand piping specifications; materials of construction, pipe hangers and supports.
- Review and integrate vendor schematic and drawings into site-based designs
- Perform system walk downs for projects and as-builts, take field measurements and prepare field sketches to produce accurate designs, identify deficiencies and ensure compliance to design and customer requirements, produce redlines of current plant drawings based on actual installed conditions.
- Verification of applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Assume responsibility for design aspects of cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control
- Review process packages and prepare design packages that fully comply with the intent of the process packages. Review vendor information to confirm capability and delivery to meet project goals.
- Must be able analyze field data in operating facilities.
- The individual must personally set a good example with all rules and regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance with HS&E (Health, Safety & Environmental) Procedures/Regulations.
- Participate in safety audits or surveillances
- Ensure applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures are being followed
- Ensure construction practices as required are compliant with operations/execution with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma; Associates degree in mechanical or mechanical engineering are a plus
- 5+ years of experience in AutoCAD or equivalent certification of its use
- Full understanding of P&ID's and PFD's
- Ability to understand piping specifications, materials of construction, pipe hangers and supports, and expansion loops and ASME B31.3 and B31.1
- Full understanding of Bill of Material (BOM), Material to Order (MTO), and how to incorporate types and quantities of detailed MTO/BOM
- Proficient in developing 3D modeling skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Experience working in industrial facilities
- Strong awareness of Safety programs and PPE requirements while performing field research
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills with personnel of all levels (Craft through Executive)
- Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
- Able to manage multiple priorities
- Some travel is required

- CADWorx piping design experience preferred.
