The Mechanical Engineering group in the Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer II to work on a multi-discipline team to support the development of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems located in Huntsville, AL. This is an onsite role, which may support various programs and roles such as design and electronics packaging.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including design, manufacture, integration and test of airframe structures and design solutions for multiple missile programs.
  • Electronics packaging development, definition of mechanical interfaces, driving material selection, defining assembly details, fastener technology selection, lower-level detail, and assembly drawings, oversee mechanical layout and responsible for the final technical data package.
  • Driving and assessing detailed Mechanical Design through use of CREO models, GD&T/tolerance analysis, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) reviews, rapid prototyping, and engineering testing
  • Make data driven decisions, prepare technical justification/analysis reports, and present in design reviews.
  • Collaboration across engineering disciplines and functions both locally and at alternate facilities to ensure designs meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines in the development of design verification test plans and qualification test plans.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers may be required to resolve production issues, technical performance issues or attend critical program engineering reviews.
  • Mentorship is expected.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar Engineering discipline
  • Two (2) years of directly related work experience in Mechanical Design or related industry
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
    U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:
  • Advanced degree in engineering discipline
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
  • Willingness to support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
  • Proficient in Creo (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Supplier interaction and supplier management experience
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
