Job description

At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. As a Materials Scientist at Meta, you will play a critical role in developing AR/VR systems. You will focus on developing advanced materials and devices for near eye displays, and will become part of a team exploring novel concepts through design, -modeling, and fast iterative prototyping. We are seeking someone who works well in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, who communicates complex concepts clearly and succinctly, who demonstrates scientific rigor, who is unafraid to tackle new challenges, and who works well in high-ambiguity discovery phases. If you are passionate about using your generalist-head to push the boundaries of what is possible, we want you on our team.

Materials Scientist - Polymers Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with AI/ML to predict and design new polymers.
  • Synthesize bench-top-scale new polymers to prove concepts.
  • Lead vendor engagement and collaborate with external partner to scale-up novel polymers.
  • Develop new film processes to meet performance requirements.
  • Identify novel polymer applications in AR/VR.
  • Independently drive the deliverables.
  • Drive XFN teams collaborations to achieve success from R&D to product.
  • Collaborate in a team environment across a diverse set of disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Optics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in the field of polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, or a related field.
  • 3+ years industry experience in Polymer Chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience in multiple polymer synthesis types and characterization.
  • Experience with internal and external cross-functional team, and vendor engagement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record delivering research to product.
  • 3+ years experience with optical materials.
