Job Description:
Job Summary: The Materials Planning & Production Flow Leader directs the Materials Planning, materials handling and fabrication production team members and processes to ensure that all materials and internally fabricated parts are delivered to assembly on-time, on-budget and are manufactured to meet quality expectations in alignment with our focus on People, Performance and Products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans and directs daily work of planners, material handlers and fabrication personnel.
  • Plans materials and fabrication schedule and allocates resources to meet customer delivery commitments and maintains master materials schedule, job status boards and any other scheduling tools. Ensures that materials and parts are complete, received, staged and ready for assembly team on assembly start-date.
  • Manages all aspects of materials fabrication including planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Communicates project status updates and conducts regular team communication meetings.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for the personal safety of self and others by maintaining a clean, orderly hazard free work environment, and compliance with safety practices and regulations.
  • Works together with site operations leadership team to plan materials and fabrication schedule in coordination with engineering and assembly schedules to optimize labor utilization, reduce lead times and achieve customer commitment dates.
  • Communicates project status updates to leadership and stakeholders frequently.
  • Provides team with support on missing or incorrect parts.
  • Provides regular coaching, mentoring and feedback to personnel to communicate expectations, recognize performance and address performance issues.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES/REPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the performance review and evaluation of personnel within area of responsibility.
  • Approve time and time-off requests of personnel within area of responsibility.
  • Develop team members to be cross trained across various product lines.
  • Provide assistance in hiring, termination and disciplinary actions of personnel within area of responsibility.
  • Develops standard work/work instructions to improve consistency and efficiency of standard machines.
  • Participation with strategic initiatives and may contribute to strategic planning process.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
  • Must have formal leadership (supervisor and/or management) experience.
  • Must have basic knowledge of fabrication and machining processes.
  • Must have advanced demonstrated experience with Materials Planning and parts staging/organization.
  • Must have basic understanding of inventory management and cycle counting.
  • Highly self-motivated, must work well with little to no supervision.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in position as business evolves.
  • Must have general safety knowledge and be safety conscious.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Possess excellent communication skills using various modes of communication.
  • Ability to analyze basic data related to Materials Planning and fabrication execution, i.e. job cost analysis and forecasting/planning, labor utilization/planning.
  • Proficient user of ERP system, Infor XA/MAPICS experience desired but not required.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Must be able to perform effectively under high stress situations periodically.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • 2 years associate degree in business management, materials management or relevant field.
  • 3 years related experience with Materials Planning and management and/or fabrication management.
  • 3 years formal management experience.
  • Lean experience desired.

ADA Requirements:
  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for operation of a computer.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly.
  • Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards.
