The Position
Materials AnalystJob Summary
The envisioned work will be primarily to assess ore quality at the North American mine sites, but will likely extend to ore quality assessments at mine sites outside of North America. This testing will include, but is not limited to:
Physical testing (various density test methods), flow rate testing, particle size distributions by screening and laser diffraction, color testing, surface area analysis, compaction resistance testing, identification and semi-quantification of diatom genera by microscopy in diatomite deposits
Chemical and mineralogical testing by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, X-ray Diffraction, ICP testing of soluble metals, moisture and loss on ignition, pH, conductivity-resistivity, Crystalline silica analysis, BSI testing
Will be responsible for keeping track and archiving testing and sample materials
Perform evaluations to support efforts to increase life-of-mines by utilizing different crude types present at deposits and the methods defined above, or other methods
Monitors and manages test equipment and procedures to ensure accurate and consistent test environment
Ensures baseline data integrity and measures and reports on improvement trends to facilitate decision making in production processes and business initiatives.

Specifically, these personnel will be focused on the following already planned work:
Project to improve efficiency of Lompoc Crude testing
Testing of Lompoc alternative and potential crudes to extend mine life and Quarry efficiencies
Drill cores and stratigraphic samples in Quincy Diatomite sections to increase plant Life of Mine extensions, work already commenced
Drill cores and mine blast samples for Lakeview-Tucker Hill/Poachers Ridge sites (57 drill holes planned, 150 ft holes, 10 ft intervals, ~850 samples)
Quarterly blast samples at Superior AZ mine to test ore quality
No Agua Ore expansion testing on South Hill to improve ore quality
Projected training and reestablishing flotation efficiency testing to increase opportunities for Celpure crude feeds In short,
There is 10+ years of projected consistent work for a potential headcount addition
Operational / succession planning synergies exist for IMERYS to consistently test materials in a centralized location under the guidance of staff scientist and QC / lab / operations engineers expertise for this person to utilize
Well-maintained validated equipment exists in this location, minimizing the need to send out samples for external analysis to third party laboratories
The presence of trained and experienced personnel trained in specific test methods will affect an efficient and cost-effective program for maintaining product quality and extending “life of mines” in the future, and improving operational efficiencies in both mines and plant sites in North America.
