Shift: Day Shift
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Material Handlers in the lumberyard work with green lumber in various functions to prepare lumber for air drying.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- Follow Job Safety Analysis guidelines to ensure safe operation
- Material handlers will lay sticks between green lumber, work on the slips pulling green lumber, or assist the kiln attendant on the day-to-day functions of the Kiln process depending on where the need is at
- Maintain clean work area and keep wood off floor, out of walkways and catwalks
- Crosstrain in at least two other jobs to fill in where needed
- Periodically operate machine by using control panel to keep steady supply of lumber
- Coordinate visual and hand signals with forklift operators
- Start conveyor that brings lumber layers to stick layers
- Straighten boards keeping lumber flat to make flat layers of lumber
- Assist in training new employees
- Perform other assigned tasks as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Must complete lock out tag out certification and exam
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check, employment verification and drug screening.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Lift 1 lbs. regularly (stacking sticks), stacking sticks should always be lifted with two hands each time they are retrieved for placement, 9-10 lbs. (4”X6”X6’ cross tie), a couple of times an hour.
- Push, pull, carry, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Walking, stretching, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, grasping and repetitive movements
- Stands for 8-12 hours daily
- Talk, hear, read, write, and comprehend basic instructions and documents
- Use an electronic device/tablet occasionally
- Use a band saw – lift sample boards one at a time measuring 30” long and weighting 3 – 5 lbs.
- Open/close dry kiln doors
- Must be able to work in a noisy and non-temperature-controlled outdoor environment
- Must be able to go up and down steps to get to and from work areas
