Position Summary
The Marketing Coordinator develops and implements business-to-business and business-to-customer marketing and advertising strategies for Metro Waste Authority facilities, as well as waste and recycling programs. This position prepares, packages, and presents technical information to businesses, customers, state agencies, the Board of Directors, and the public in an appropriate format for the audience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develops and implements a marketing and advertising strategy to promote the purchase and use of MWA’s products and services to residential, private, and public customers.
- Supports the business development strategy of programs and services by designing collateral, as well as developing an engaging online presence.
- Helps foster new and existing customer relationships and launch new programs.
- Independently coordinate marketing for community/industry events, including overseeing logistics, creative, and marketing collateral. Represent the agency as community/industry events.
- Serves as in-house expert for utilization of customer relationship management software for business contacts of the agency.
- Utilizes various communication tools, including media relations, social media, and additional channels to convey the story and the value of MWA’s facilitates to the region.
- Facilitates a positive customer experience at all MWA facilities, ensuring effective signage is present, coordinating customer appreciation activities, and relaying important information to customers.
- Serves as an in-house business recycling expert, advising, and assisting businesses who want to start or grow their recycling programs.
- Provides cross-department communication support, translating technical information in written and visual format to be easily digested by the public.
- Identifies opportunities for improved customer experiences and understanding, proposing solutions, overseeing improvement projects and related collateral.
- Plan, execute, and track marketing initiatives such as email, event, social media, or content marketing.
- Maintain relationships with external vendors that serve the agency for marketing collateral, signage, and the like to ensure timely and fiscally responsible service.
Environmental Stewardship – Demonstrates an understanding of Metro Waste Authority’s Environmental Management System (EMS). Guided by the EMS processes and procedures, we focus on six main areas aimed at increasing diversion and/or protecting the environment. These include:

Travel
- This position requires occasional travel in and around the Des Moines metro area to support all Metro Waste Authority facilities.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelors’ degree in business, marketing, communications, environmental science, or related field
- 4 years of experience in communications and/or design
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Competencies in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
