Marketing Assistant/ Inside Sales Representative Description & Expectations

(IMS) Industrial Machinery Sales & Services, Inc is a premier supplier of Primary and Secondary processing equipment and service products for the Plastics Industry. Marketing Assistant/Inside Sales Representative Job Expectations:

  • This position is accountable for the following result(s): To represent IMS Industrial Machinery Sales & Services, Inc in an exceptionally professional manner and to provide a steady flow of qualified sales appointments for the Sales & Marketing Director (SMD) or other Regional Managers.
  • 2-3 years’ experience or training in industrial wholesale distribution preferably in the plastics extrusion or injection molding industry
  • 2-3 years of Inside Sales experience
  • Understands and achieves basic mastery of the materials included in the “Marketing Assistant Training Manual” within the first month of employment.
  • Spends at least 85% of their time on the phone working to set appointments via telephone for the SMD. The Inside Sales Representative does not spend unnecessary time with administrative tasks. Your dialing hours should be at least 85% of your total hours paid each week.
  • Represents IMS in a very positive and professional manner at all times. The Inside Sales Representative maintains an attitude and tone that is enthusiastic, polite, helpful, and friendly. The MA does not argue or debate when handling prospects’ objections.
  • Is not a telemarketer and avoids sounding like one. The MA focuses on setting appointments, not selling our services.
  • Successfully produces qualified appointments within the first two weeks of employment.
  • Works to ensure that appointments set are qualified based on predetermined criteria defined by the SMD.
  • Recognizes the value of our services and is able to intelligently discuss the primary components.
  • Is resourceful in handling gatekeepers and determining the identity of the decision maker(s).
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to reach business owners for one-on-one telephone conversations.
  • Successfully engages business owners in meaningful conversations about their businesses and our services – does not “just read the script”.
  • Consistently cultivates contacts for future appointments (i.e. “farming” activity) when an appointment is not set on the first call.
  • Follows the scripts and firm-prepared rebuttal dialogs and does not improvise unnecessarily.
  • Adheres to all probing and qualification questions and documents information obtained from prospects thoroughly for the SMD’s reference.
  • Defers all technical questions about Equipment and Services and/or the mechanics of our services to the SMD
  • Carefully follows instructions and implements suggestions from SMD for improving technique and work habits
  • Respects and adheres to the weekly work schedule determined by the SMD and is reasonably flexible on scheduling when needed
  • Is self-sufficient and self-reliant regarding administrative and clerical tasks
  • Completes paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and timely including timesheets, calling records, appointment reports and any other paperwork assigned by the SMD or President

Office Expectations for the Marketing Assistant:

  • Portray a neat and professional image in the way you interact and communicate with coworkers, prospects, and customers
  • Dress and act in a professional manner at all times
  • Maintain a neat, clean and organized office space including desk, computer workstation and floor area
  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks as required
  • Leave your desk clean and organized at the end of each day with no prospect information left open
  • Help make the office a smooth-running and positive place to work for everyone
  • Think of ways to improve efficiency of your position
  • Help to create a positive and fun office environment
  • Fits in well and gets along easily with our other staff members
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, such as birthday or holiday parties either during or after office hours
  • Help train other Inside Marketers as requested by SMD
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President and/or SMD
  • Assists SMD or President with other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned

Productivity Expectations of the Marketing Assistant:

  • Sets at least three- to four (3 to 4) qualified appointments each week based on qualification criteria determined by the SMD
  • Sets qualified appointments that become qualified presentations (i.e. appointments that are qualified, do not cancel, reschedule or no-show) at least 60% of the time on average
  • Has at least one (1) appointment each month that becomes a new client
  • Consistently works at a rate of 25-35 dials per hour
  • All routine work will be performed in accordance with SOPs and Marketing Assistant Training Manual
  • All communication will be prompt, concise, warm, and exceptionally professional in content and tone
