JOB TITLE: Marketing and Communications Student Assistant
LOCATION(S): St. Paul
HOURS: 5-7/ Week

St. Thomas Libraries seek a punctual, reliable student to work a consistent schedule of 5-7 hours per week.

ABOUT THE JOB:
What will you be doing?
- Work with librarians and library staff to promote library events, services, and resources via social media and using wider university communication methods.
- Once trained, you'll be trusted to work on multiple projects per shift with very little supervision
When will you be doing the job?
- Pick 5 to 7 hours per week between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday thru Friday and that's your schedule! This position offers extreme flexibility - once you get the hang of the job, this position can rearrange schedules with oversight of supervisor

- In the student office in the OSF Library in St. Paul
What skills do you need?
- The ability to ask questions of others
- The curiosity and interest to learn about university advertising channels and graphic design software
- The ability to complete tasks as assigned
- The ability to work with others to develop incomplete ideas while incorporating feedback
- The creativity and interest in designing promotional materials and signs
Once trained, gain leadership experience by spearheading projects and gathering requirements, input, and feedback from others
What does a typical day look like?
- A typical shift might be 3 to 4-hour and starts with a meeting with your supervisor. You'll chat and prioritize tasks while addressing any skill gaps and answering questions. The plan for the shift could include: completing a multi-step marketing campaign on a service the library wants to bring attention to, designing a poster for an upcoming library event using the graphic design platform Canva, or writing a blog post about a resource the library has. At the end of the shift, you'll check in with your supervisor about what was done and what needs to be done during the next shift. This job is detail oriented and there is no "downtime" to work on homework or study.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Great written communication skills with the ability to write blogs and articles for the library website
- Interest in learning graphic design software like Canva
- Ability to ask clarifying questions
- Ability to work collaboratively with a group to take incomplete ideas, develop them, and receive and incorporate feedback
- Self-motivated with the ability to recognize and prioritize tasks
- Ability to work with minimal supervision once trained
- Ability to adhere to scheduled work hours
- Good judgment and independent decision-making skills
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
