The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities, and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The City’s park system encompasses approximately 320 urban parks, parkways, and natural areas, totaling over 7,000 acres. Recreation efforts include arts and cultural classes and events, aquatics, sports and fitness opportunities, and youth programming.
DPR recognizes the importance of diversity in the representation of our organization to best serve our customers and community. To that end, DPR is committed to:

  • Identifying where inequities exist and implementing strategies to ensure equitable outcomes
  • Strengthening diversity in Parks and Recreation services by transforming policies to institutionalize equity
  • Reinvesting in resources aimed at ensuring DPR is an equitable and just organization
As the Marketing and Communications Specialist for DPR, you will be a part of a collaborative and cross-functional Marketing and Communications Team that supports DPR with internal communications, Marketing and promotions, and community engagement.

  • Support internal communication strategies to enhance employee engagement and awareness of organizational priorities and activities by developing or contributing to internal newsletters, informational materials and correspondences, employee meetings and committees, and other related strategies to facilitate communication
  • Prepare and disseminate responses to public information and CORA requests, and assure legal compliance in areas affecting public access to information
  • Review and edit a variety of public-facing documents, plans, reports, memos and presentations, as needed
  • Provide crisis management and Communications during emergency situations by managing and responding to media requests, serving as a spokesperson, reporting on follow-through of crisis communications efforts, and collaborating with and/or serving in the Joint Information Center as needed
About You
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Strong understanding of both local and national industry media outlets
