The College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS) is the largest and most diverse academic unit of the University of Denver, where students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed at nearly any career in todays globally connected society. Half of the Colleges departments and schools offer masters or PhD programs.
Position Summary
CAHSS is hiring a Content and Event Specialist to develop and coordinate content across an array of communication channels and to plan and execute events in promotion of the College and its schools, departments, centers and institutes. The specialist will help departments engage prospective and current students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff through creative, compelling storytelling and Events aligned to the Colleges communications strategy. This position is a member of the CAHSS Departmental Support Team, and reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications. This position will closely collaborate with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, the Dean, departments across the College, and University Marketing and Communications.
Essential Functions
Content Development and Communications:

  • Develop and organize content by creating and maintaining an editorial calendar for CAHSS schools and departments, as well as the overall College, aligned with the University Marketing & Communications editorial calendar.
  • At the direction of the Director, implement the writing, editing and analytics of various media, including newsletters, stories, reports, and newsroom, for CAHSS schools and departments, as well as the overall College.
  • Partnering with the Senior Manager, contribute social media content to department-level and Colleges social media accounts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Colleges schools and departments to generate and assess story ideas to drive the narrative of the Marketing & Communications function.
  • Oversee list management and database maintenance in coordination with University Advancement and technology teams. This includes training and editorial support for coordinators on newsletter production for schools and departments within the College.

Event Planning and Delivery:

  • At the direction of the Director, deliver events for CAHSS schools and departments, as well as advancement, graduate student recruitment and admissions, and Deans initiatives. Work with the Director to ensure events align with the departments communications strategy.
  • Work with the Manager to promote CAHSS events in College and University marketing channels, and external channels as appropriate. Write and distribute event communications including invitations, registration information and post-event surveys to measure the effectiveness of the events.
  • Partner with Graduate Recruitment and Admissions to plan and deliver events targeting graduate student interest and enrollment in CAHSS programs.
  • Partner with donor and alumni engagement team and department staff to support Advancement events and activities aligned to the strategic communications plan of the department.
  • Coordinate with event managers from DUs Conference and Events Services (CES) team to help plan and deliver College-wide and department events.

Miscellaneous:

  • Collaborate with one or more student and/or contract employees on communications assignments.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on and implement communications strategies by developing creative, compelling content tailored to specific communication channels.
  • Comfortable with and confident in delivering Content and Events under deadline pressure.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality, accurate work with measurable results.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage projects from conception to completion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, contributing to an inclusive working, and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing for various media, print and online, and with e-newsletter creation and list management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of day-to-day experience in communications and/or events roles in higher education, with a highly matrixed business, non-profit or NGO.
  • Familiarity with AP style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three-plus (3+) years of experience in communications, content creation/management and/or event/program management.
  • Experience in contributing to and executing strategic communication plans and narratives.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions can frequently occur.
  • As this position will support departments across the College, individual(s) must be willing to meet with stakeholders at locations across campus.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Evenings and weekends as required for event support.
Option to work remotely or from home up to two days per week.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 8.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$62,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
