Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Dock Hand works with the Dockmaster to provide hands on quality service within the Marina in a safe, courteous, efficient and professional manner at all times by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides a first class operation with a friendly, courteous and professional attitude to members and guests and crew.
- Facilitates, directs, assists and securely moors vessels to dock while providing a safe, clean and orderly dock area.
- Provide a clean, organized and secure Marina Office and utility storage closet.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the dock house by emptying trash receptacles as needed, wiping down the bar, picking up any debris and cleaning wiping all tables and chairs.
- Completes the Marina Daily Safety Checklist.
- Ensures the golf cart is properly stored each day including charging the battery and keeping the cart clean.
- Rounds up dock carts daily and stores them at the dock house. Wash carts out at least once per week.
- Dispenses fuel and accessories in accordance with RPYCC's Standard Operating Procedures. Records and enters fuel and accessories sales into the POS System as they occur.
- Monitors the VHF Radio, Channel 16, in accordance with FCC regulations and advises incoming boat traffic.
- Observes and notice to navigation relating to draft or depth issues.
- Assists with proper compliance with U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations. Adheres to all federal, state and local laws.
- Works with the Dockmaster to maintain Royal Palm's Clean Marina status.
- Assists with any minor maintenance issues as needed including painting.
- Assists members, guests, and transients with marina equipment such as power stations, pump-out station, golf cart and hand cart.
- Establishes working relationships with boat owners, captains, crew, outside contractors and local marine law enforcement.
- Communicates and documents any safety hazard, hazardous conditions or unsafe practices or procedures..
- Assists with the planning and organizing (while attending) of all marina events such as the Lobster Boil, Blessing of the Fleet, Change of Watch, Fishing Tournaments and Car Show. Will work with Social Director and Food and Beverage Department to assist in execution of these events.
- Does not accept or request gratuities as Royal Palm is a non-tipping Club.
- Performs any extraordinary tasks for members privately only with prior approval from the Yachting Committee and General Manager and not during working hours.
- Does not fraternize with members or yacht crews on or off boats or consume alcoholic beverages on premises.
- Any and all other tasks assigned by the Dockmaster or General Manager.
Education / Experience
- Must have at least 2 years marine experience and a minimum of 2 years related Marina experience, preferably in a private club, hotel or resort setting.
- Must have working knowledge of boat related systems, docking procedures and advance dock line theory as it relates to the proper mooring of any vessel.
- Must have knowledge of all dock related equipment such as electrical systems, plumbing, fuel systems and safety equipment.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend work orders, invoices, schedules, contracts, etc.
Certifications
- OSHA First Responder Awareness Certification, CPR/AED Certification

- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking, reaching, bending, turning, and stooping,
- Outside work for extended periods of time in various weather conditions. Precautions should be taken.
