JOB DESCRIPTION

BASIC SUMMARY:

Operate marine forklift to launch and remove dry storage and service vessels to and from the water; provide exceptional guest experience to members and guests. As a Dock Hand, you perform maintenance for a marina and assist the marina team in serving their clients. Your primary responsibilities include making sure all areas are clean while adhering to and maintaining quality standards. You help dock workers with duties such as securing boats to docks, monitoring power, water, and phone services, facility sanitation, black water pump-out, and waste disposal. You are expected to provide excellent customer service and complete requests such as transporting each customer and their baggage to and from the dock. You operate a boat and other equipment as needed and help the team maintain general security while reporting potential concerns. You are also responsible for refueling boats when required and completing other routine maintenance.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate forklift and/or current machinery used to launch vessels of various sizes.
  • Operate Marina service truck and various yard equipment (pressure washer/power tools).
  • Operate fuel pump and registers fuel sales in the POS.
  • Answer phones, takes launch requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness of marina grounds.
  • Assist customers with docking and direct them to different areas of the Marina.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Minimum one- year experience in dockage allocation.
  • Minimum six- month experience in docking vessels.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Fork Lift Operator Safety Training Certificate preferred.
  • Able to determine how much depth a boat needs to travel through certain waterways.
  • See clearly, as vessels approach the dock.
  • Monitor vessels in times of foul weather in wet slips as well as on sunny days.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions (such as labels and safety information) in the English language.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other associates of the organization.
  • Deal effectively and professionally with customers, some of whom may require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger.
  • Prioritize and organize work.
  • Effectively work in a team.
  • Successfully work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to achieve positive guest relations and maximize guest satisfaction.
  • Successfully work without constant direct supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS – ABILITY TO:

  • Grasp, lift, push/pull, carry or transport up to 50 lbs. Push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Stay in the sun and endure hot weather conditions for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly and quickly.
  • Perceive the nature of sounds at a normal speaking level and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Have visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Stand for length of scheduled shift.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to perceive any safety risks for forklift operations in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to determine close fits for depth, breadth, and length for boats in narrow or shallow passageways.
