Delta Gear is an AS9100 and ISO9001 registered facility which manufactures precision gears, shafts, splines, carriers, housings, gages, master gears & other geared components and gearbox assemblies. In addition, we provide contract gear and CMM inspection services.

Job Details:
We have an exciting opportunity for a ManufacturingEngineer with experience in Gear Grinding and OD/ID Grinding to join our Delta Gear team in Livonia. The Manufacturing Engineer will develop vigorous processes for CNC and non-CNC machining centers. The position entails driving process improvements, ensuring components are manufacturable, and offering technical expertise to the production shop floor. The incumbent will offer Manufacturing support by way of technical dispositions, process documentation, and manufacturing controls are also required. Strong problem-solving skills are a must to eliminate waste and drive efficiency throughout the manufacturing process. Qualified candidates must have strong mechanical and manufacturing knowledge.

Responsibilities:

• Plans and designs complete manufacturing processes utilizing various machining strategies to produce conforming parts consistently and minimize scrap.
• Create manufacturing process documentation (process, tool sheets, setup sheets, etc.)
• Properly utilize GD&T.
• Define necessary tooling and gages; and procure them when necessary.
• Using CAD for 3D modeling and drafting, design custom tooling, fixtures, and gages.
• Provide quotation for making parts in-house.
• Create programs for CNC machines. Troubleshoot and edit as necessary.
• Be knowledgeable about various manufacturing capabilities. Provide floor support and troubleshoot problems when issues arise.
• Review engineering designs and evaluate manufacturability of the part. Decide if part is to be accepted into production.
• Provide manufacturing process training to operators when necessary.
• Maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.
• Develop and utilize analytical and visual tools to assist and improve production and planning processes.
• Perform root cause and correct action activities to support quality requirements.
• Analyze manufacturing capacity.
• Work closely with other departments to meet both internal and external customer expectations.
• Have experience in Gear Grinding and ID/OD Grinding.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience and a degree in an engineering related field.
• Experience in manufacturing or process planning.
• 3+ years CNC machining experience.
• Programming CNC machines using Mastercam software.
• Ability to read, understand, and edit CNC programs.
• Capable of effectively reading blueprints, specifications manuals
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to create and manage manufacturing data reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Familiarity with aerospace quality systems and manufacturing requirements
• Gear manufacturing (preferred)
• Familiarity with aerospace standards
• Good writing ability, strong computer knowledge, and must be self-motivated with good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
