Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Managing Director of Exceptional Students & Student Experience will assist in driving a culture of academic excellence and high levels of student achievement for all students. The Managing Director will lead a team of professionals while working closely with principals and senior leadership to support the region’s academic vision and priorities. Team priorities include: special education, ELL, RTI, behavioral intervention/school psychologist, and SEL wrap-around support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance
● Ensure compliance of documentation and legally mandated services for students with IEPs, ILP-Ds, 504 plans, ELL, and Gifted programs for Green Dot Public Schools.
● Establish and maintain relationships between LEAs (ASD & TN Charter Commission)
● Support manifestation determination meetings through coaching and development of SEPA and school-based teams. Attend meetings as requested/required.
● Lead and/or attend all mandatory professional development for special populations as the Green Dot representative (alongside EL Program Administrator and SEPA).
● Complete all documentation for audits and compliance for ASD and TN Charter Commission
● Ensure that RTI tracking and compliance remains up-to-date and schools have the tools to be successful
● Develop and implement a process for internal compliance of hard and digital special populations files
● Attend all school meetings related to alternative placements for students
● Oversee compliance as it relates to social work and college tracking
School Support
● Lead school teams through developing their programs for special populations while codifying district-level program requirements and best practices
● Monitor consistency and quality of special populations programming
● Monitor teacher schedules and Student service hours to ensure students are receiving their legally mandated amount of service
● Assist school personnel with resolving parent complaints regarding services for diverse learners
● Coaching and development of 4-5 direct reports to enable the team to provide feedback to teachers and managers regarding instructional practices, compliance concerns, and needed shifts to support academic achievement
● Support direct reports in creating and facilitating professional development to teachers and administrators on areas of compliance, instructional support, and progress monitoring
Enrollment/Files
● Maintain and monitor the accuracy of all databases for special populations including TNPulse, Illuminate, Ellevation, PowerSchool, etc.
● Ensure proper transfer of student files between districts and schools, including troubleshooting errors
● Monitor compliance of transfer IEPs, re-evaluations, and stop signs throughout the school year (SPED) ensuring the district meets all state and authorizer requirements
● Monitor compliance of hard yellow files for compliance throughout the school year (ESL) ensuring the district meets all state and authorizer requirements
Related Services
● Work with Managing Director of Finance to follow Board procedures to obtain bids from related services providers and assist in final contract decisions
● Review contracts to determine renewal and meet specification criteria for success throughout the year
● Maintain relationships between contracted providers throughout the school year
● Serve as point of contact for concerns or needs regarding contracted services
● Monitor compliance and service hours for related services
● Obtain schedules and contact information for all contracted workers
● Ensure students receive the supports needed to be academically successful by supporting the team with scheduling, assessment, group or individual needs, and data review
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
● The Managing Director will lead a total team of 6-8 (mix of direct reports and managers). Should have experience coaching both ICs and managers to outcomes.
● Provide feedback and updates to the Chief Academic Officer aligned to the department and organizational goals.
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree Preferred
● A background and/or license in Special Education, ESL, or Social Work is preferred.
● Knowledge of ESL and gifted program requirements
● Experience leading a team at the district level (as a director or above) supporting multiple priorities and projects simultaneously or experience as a school administrator (principal) required. Experience at the district level has to be in special education.
● Strong background in special education administration and instruction, including experience with special education processes, procedures and legal requirements, and a deep understanding of IEP development and evaluation
● Strong background in social-emotional learning competencies and school culture required
● Experience working with social, emotional, and behavioral intervention teams
● In-depth knowledge of effective student engagement and creation of healthy classroom culture and climate
● Ability to build a vision for diverse learners that aligns with Green Dot’s mission, beliefs, and values
● Ability to effectively and consistently communicate with all stakeholders, including parents and outside agencies
● Strategic thinker with strong analytical and multi-tasking skills
● Capability to personally build, develop and retain strong relationships with school leaders, teachers, families, and other relevant stakeholders
● Strong leadership and management skills and the ability to motivate, excite, and educate stakeholders

COMPENSATION
The starting salary range for this role is $100,000 - $115,000. Please note that candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range. To allow for salary progression over time, offers at the top of the range are rare. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
