Who We're Looking for:Toyota's Legal Department, An Automotive Company, is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Managing Counsel, Business Litigation (BL) & Warranty/Lemon Law (WLL).
A primary responsibility of this role is to provide strategic oversight and direction to the WLL Paralegal Case Managers handling a high volume of WLL law litigation and consumer-related claims. This role also has responsibility for directly managing a variety of BL matters including consumer class actions. In addition, this role provides critical legal guidance and direction to business stakeholders.
The person in this role reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Controversy and Legal Operations and will closely collaborate with the other WLL-BL Managing Counsel and WLL Paralegal Case Managers.
This position is based at our North American Headquarters in Plano, Texas. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Overseeing a high-volume portfolio of WLL litigation, with responsibilities including:
- Providing attorney guidance to Paralegal Case Managers on all aspects of litigation, trial, and appeal.
- Monitoring TL1's WLL litigation portfolio, and industry-wide developments, to provide strategic input on challenges and direction.
- Identifying opportunities to achieve more effective and efficient case handling, including with outside counsel and vendors.
- Communicating with TL1 management and other An Automotive Company stakeholders.
- Managing other customer-related BL litigation, consumer class actions, and related matters including pre-litigation claims, demand letters, inquiries from regulators and government, etc.
- Providing legal advice and support to a variety of business units regarding WLL, customer support, advertising and marketing, warranty regulation and compliance, quality processes for dealers and distributors, and team member training.
- Handling special projects and other matters as requested to support the Litigation Group and TL1.
What you bring:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the Texas State Bar, or admission to another U.S. state bar and able to obtain license to practice in Texas.
- Relevant litigation experience at a major law firm and/or corporate law department
- Extensive experience in all aspects of trial and litigation management, including risk assessment, strategy development, discovery, motion practice, settlement evaluation, mediation, arbitration, appeals, and selection and management of outside counsel and experts.
- Ability to manage and adapt to busy, high-volume portfolio of active litigation, pre-litigation claims, and business client requests for legal advice, including time-sensitive and high-priority matters.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support non-attorney case managers.
- Strong sense of inclusion and teamwork and demonstrated ability to support and collaborate with colleagues and business partners.

- Strong drafting and communications skills, particularly in executive-level briefings.

- Ability and willingness to travel 15% of the time.
