Purpose:
The Lead Associate, API Procurement will drive the procurement operations of materials including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and critical excipients and all relevant supplier services.

Responsibilities: 

·     Ensure consistent supply availability of API’s and critical excipients materials for US operations (internal DRL and external CMO plants)

·      Review and monitor API supplies and planned deliveries with GMO, CMO’s, External Manufacturing and QC/QA to align according to business priorities

·      Continuous tracking and monitoring of sourcing activities to ensure timely actions initiated to ensure supplies of materials

·      Lead and organize technical discussions with API manufacturers, vendors and internal technical teams to facilitate exchange of documents/information between teams.

·      Evaluate and agree on long-term API supply arrangements with suppliers where possible to ensure cost competitiveness in the market

·      Coordinate with the vendors and organize vendor audits as needed by coordination with the QA department

·       Develop and implement Strategic Sourcing Strategies for all API’s

·      Develop and issue 12-month rolling API demand plans to Supply Planning, External Manufacturing and applicable CMO’s

·     Prepare strategy sheets/documents for each key material (APIs/Excipients) clearly outlining supply, pricing, manufacturing capacity and strategy by analyzing market data

·      Continuously analyze key market intelligence and review/update sourcing strategy accordingly to ensure strategic leadership in the marketplace is in place at all times

·       Work closely with other internal/external Procurement teams on continuously identifying alternate sources for all API’s and facilitate their qualification with the technical teams

·      Facilitate interactions with QA teams to ensure the timely and smooth qualification of the identified alternate vendors

·       Act as the lead program manager for the Total Variable Cost savings reduction program which consists of accountability and ownership to help lead, develop, implement and deliver the various Variable Cost savings projects in the fiscal year

 

Qualifications / Skills:

·      Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management or Pharmaceutical Sciences or master’s degree in supply chain.  MBA is preferred.

·     At least 8 years of experience with strong domain knowledge of pharma API Procurement and Purchasing industry experience is required.  Strong knowledge of SAP – procure to pay cycle.

·      Ability to create and maintain relationships with vendors at various levels. 

·      Strong negotiation skills are critical to the role for API cost reductions and continuous supply.

 

Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of U.S. or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
