ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY
San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) envisions a future where health justice is achieved for all people living with or at risk for HIV. Ultimately, we strive for a day when race is not a barrier to health and wellness, substance use is not stigmatized, HIV status does not determine quality of life, and HIV transmission is eliminated.
Our mission is to promote health, wellness, and social justice for communities most impacted by HIV through sexual health and substance use services, advocacy, and partnership.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
San Francisco AIDS Foundation relies on approximately 1,000 volunteers annually and over 30 new hires to support program delivery, fundraising events, and administrative tasks.  The Manager, Volunteer Program will design, build and maintain an agency-wide volunteer services program responsible for the identification, recruitment, orientation and stewardship of the foundation's volunteer workforce. This position reports to the Senior Director of People & Culture and works collaboratively with managers and directors throughout the agency to understand and meet their volunteer needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Management
  • Audit all agency departments to determine their volunteer needs (type, frequency, duration)
  • Develop a strategic plan to serve the needs of programs and departments as determined by the initial audit
  • Devise protocols and implement for the recruiting, screening, orientation, training, motivating, supervision, support, and recognition of volunteers, agency-wide
  • Own and manage event and communications to foster volunteer engagement and recognition
  • Establish and maintain a policies and procedures manual for volunteer services
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage an operating budget for volunteer services
  • Ensure that volunteer services protocols are infused with "best practices" for volunteer management
  • Own and manage a volunteer platform to ensure that volunteer information, schedules, and check-in is well organized and configured for program support
  • Develop categories of volunteers based on necessary skill set, availability, and type; for example, the event staffing in which volunteers are needed in large quantity for a short period of time; administration support for data entry filing chart work and computer-based work; and program staffing as backup coverage for staff and providing logistics for client groups (requires both interpersonal and confidentiality skill sets)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse variety of individuals
  • Demonstrated abilities in leadership, strategic thinking, and effectiveness in building collaborative relationships
  • Highly organized, with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledgeable regarding volunteer management software

SUPERVISION:  N/A
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
Skill in operating equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system.  Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing a successful Volunteer Program at a large, complex organization.
  • At least 3 years progressive experience in volunteer and/or employee coordination in a not for profit organization, preferably in a health-related field.
  • Personal volunteer history is desirable. 
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting facilitation and volunteer training.

This position will have access to protected health information (PHI) and may only access, use or disclose the minimum information necessary to perform their designated role on behalf of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, regardless of the extent of access provided.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is primarily located 1035 Market Street, San Francisco, and is expected to be on-site at least 3 days per week. However, it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings and event locations as required by the job. Role will include evening and weekend coverage.
