Simulation Operations Manager:
Southwest Healthcare Medical Education Consortium has several residency and fellowship training programs that utilize the simulation center. In addition, the simulation center supports nursing, allied health, and interdisciplinary simulations needs across consortium hospitals.
The simulation lab is located at Temecula Valley Hospital. It is approximately 1000 square feet. There are adult and pediatric high-fidelity manikins. In addition, there are numerous task trainers and a 3-D printer. The Simulation Operations Specialist will also support satellite simulation sites at southern California/Inland Valley Southwest Healthcare sites (i.e. Rancho Springs Med. Ctr & Inland Valley Med. Ctr). While primarily focused on residency and fellowship simulation education, this position also includes supporting in situ simulations that involve interdisciplinary teams.
Under the direction of the Administrative Director of Medical Education and the Simulation Physician Director, the Manager-Simulation Operations will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of each simulation lab.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Manages scheduling of simulation sessions and email communications related to simulation training
  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals
  • Programs simulator software to model simulator's physiological response to instructor specifications
  • Operates patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations
  • Operates and maintains audio-visual and debriefing systems
  • Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment
  • Maintains and repairs all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors and a variety of medical equipment
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors as needed
  • Provides theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested, such as mixing fake body fluids and creating wounds
  • Provides technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors, and staff in use of simulation equipment
  • Provides recommendations on equipment, supplies and materials
  • Collects data for ongoing research or grant requirements
  • Sets up and maintains surgical/procedural simulators
  • Sets up and maintains computer-based training programs
  • Maintains simulation activities and learner confidentiality

Qualifications
Education:
  • Master's degree required; preferably in a related field such as Simulation, Computer Science, Management Information Technology, Film or other healthcare, science or technology related field
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) certification required to obtain it within two years of hire
  • Minimum three years' experience working as a simulation technician, operations specialist, or equivalent position required
  • Minimum three years' experience working in a healthcare related field including EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession preferred
  • Experience in computer technology and troubleshooting, and providing technical support in networking, computer hardware/software required
  • Experience with community relations and/or marketing required

Skills Required:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic human anatomy/physiology
  • Familiarity and skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment
  • Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc
  • Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, track expenses/assist with budget process and follow through assignments to completion
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to organize information.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute confidentiality.
  • Ability to make decisions independently or to escalate issues as needed.
