About the Job:

The Manager, SHE&S will have responsibility for overseeing safety programs, policies, and practices in their assigned facilities.  This includes ensuring all employees follow established SHE&S regulations to ensure a safe workplace.  They will monitor the facilities for potential hazards, implement safety protocols and deliver SHE&S related training.  They will also investigate accidents, injuries and other SHE&S related incidents and work with the SHE&S team and facility management to develop and implement corrective action plans.  This person will be required to have a working knowledge of SHE&S regulatory bodies including OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, EPA and other SHE&S local related agencies.

 

In This Role, You Will:

  • Support the Company's SHE&S commitment and initiatives by identifying, communicating, and addressing site and fleet risks.
  • Maintain a working knowledge and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations to include, but not limited to: OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and EPA.
  • Ensure all site personnel and drivers maintain compliance with federal, state, and local SHE&S and DOT regulations including but not limited to site safety, drug and alcohol testing, HOS, Driver file maintenance, MVR monitoring, DOT physicals, and Clearinghouse queries.
  • Conduct safety related training and retraining as necessary and perform continuous auditing and inspections to foster safety success. In conjunction with the SHE&S Director, develop corrective actions to address any deficiency. 
  • Track corrective actions to completion.
  • Conduct site safety assessments.
  • Develop Job Safety Assessments including potential hazards and protective measures.
  • In conjunction with the SHE&S Director, investigate accidents, injuries and significant events and perform root cause analysis.
  • Report and communicate to SHE&S Director as required.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance investigations as requested.
  • Create a positive safety culture for team members by handling SHE&S and DOT related activities in a collaborative manner.
  • Develop and provide daily, weekly, monthly standard and ad hoc reports as necessary.
  • Plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety celebrations.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 + years' experience in transportation and logistics within a Safety and Operations position.
  • A degree in Operations Management, Safety Management, or Business Management is preferred.
  • Experience working in a warehouse and logistics environment within a SHE&S related role is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and EPA rules and regulations.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at any given time.
  • Flexibility to be on call in response to the needs of the business.
  • Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale.
  • Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.
  • Ability to work in a team and/or without direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management.

 

Location: This is an in-office role in Chicago, IL.

 

Travel: Up to 50% travel required.
