Job Description
Responsibilities
- Monitor, coordinate and lead advocacy efforts at state economic and environmental regulatory bodies (public utility commissions, public service commissions, utility boards, state procurement entities, state EPA or siting authorities, etc.) on behalf of Invenergy's Regulatory Affairs department in the MISO,SPP and Southeast footprints.
- Monitor and engage with RTO and other transmission providers as directed by management and regional peers.
- Develop, advocate and implement policy changes that will further the competitive position of the company, in conjunction with regional RTOs leads, Invenergy's internal business teams, industry associations and other energy stakeholders at national and regional levels.
- Provide regular updates to Senior management and other business groups in the company on key risks and opportunities related to state transmission and interconnection policy, IRPs, and rate cases and processes.
- In conjunction with outside counsel and consultants (as needed), draft and lead written and oral comments at state regulatory bodies in the MISO, SPP and Southeast footprints.
- Represent and advocate for Invenergy's interests via state stakeholder processes, forums; and conferences with other duties as assigned.
- May represent Invenergy in regional and national trade associations depending on organizational needs, including driving decision making affecting State policy while maintaining constructive relationships with other companies.
- Identify and track opportunities in States within the MISO, SPP and Southeast footprint, relevant to Invenergy's assets - operational or under development - across all clean energy and storage technologies, including solar, wind and thermal.
- Provide ongoing analysis and information to Invenergy's various business groups for the identification of new market opportunities, response to new opportunities, and optimization of Invenergy's operational and development pipeline.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, law, business or a related field required.
- 3+ years of energy or utilities sector experience, including energy policy, project development, transmission planning, interconnection and/or asset management.
- 3+ years of experience in market regulatory policy, transmission planning or interconnection policy or law.
- Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Strong preference for background in state public utility regulatory bodies including state siting and procurement agencies.
- Familiarity with MISO and SPP including in the areas of transmission planning, tariff and processes, and federal and state regulatory policy.
- Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple opportunities while being flexible and able to adapt to changing project or market priorities.
- Strong analytical skills, project management and organizational skills, and attention to details.
- Strong relationship development skills and the ability to work successfully with a diverse range of peers and colleagues across the company, the industry, and in other external environments.
- Comfort with providing both in-depth analysis and conclusions by deliberately synthesizing economic, transmission or market information, as well as policy positions in fast-paced situations with little lead time and based on limited information.
- The ability to function in a team environment and demonstrate a strong motivation to succeed in a very fast paced environment.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability and poise to interact comfortably with senior levels of management
- Research/analyze market or design changes, transmission planning or interconnection changes and reforms, using both qualitative and quantitative frameworks and manage internal/external resources as necessary to conduct such analyses.
