UW MEDICINE IT SERVICES has an outstanding job opportunity for a MANAGER - NATIONAL ALZHEIMER'S COORDINATING CENTER (NACC) TECHNOLOGY TEAM position.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • 100% FTE - 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift - UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 - 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday

  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Supporting the NACC Executive Director in strategic planning, collaborating closely with other teams at NACC, and providing leadership and support for the NACC Technology Team which is embedded within Research Information Technology (RIT).
  • Overseeing implementation of NACC Technology Team deliverables under the direction of and in alignment with the priorities of the NACC Executive Director.
  • Managing a team of Software Engineers, Infrastructure Engineers, and Data Analysts in gathering requirements and designing, building, testing, and implementing of solutions to meet customer requirements for RIT and NACC.
  • Identifying process improvements, designing solutions, and overseeing the implementation of solutions.

  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children's University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, and Seattle Children's). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • You implement and sustain strong processes and capabilities through the enhancement, deployment, and maintenance of methods, metrics, tools, training, education, and communication.
  • You manage assigned budget(s) and resources.
  • You manage and sustain vendor/supplier relationships.
  • You maintain appropriate levels of service delivery to deliver and improve services for the enterprise.
  • You foster an IT Service Management culture.
  • You are responsible for data and system management, project management, communications, and support strategy development and implementation.
  • You lead, organize, and positively influence a team of technology and business professionals.
  • You instill UW Medicine and ITS vision and guiding principles to all staff; implementing mission-oriented HR practices.
  • You promote an environment that is attractive to the employee and that facilitates the recruitment and retention of professional, technical, and support staff. This includes, but is not limited to, staff development, recognition, motivation, and communications.
  • You advise the NACC Executive Director on hiring and make recommendations for separations, reclassification recommendations, salary adjustment recommendations, handle complaints and grievances, and plan, assign, and approve these positions' work.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical Informatics, or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 6+ years' of overall experience to include the below.
  • 4+ years' experience leading and managing technology and/or business professionals. Experience developing, leading, and mentoring diverse teams, with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership capabilities with proven ability to influence in matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and provide guidance and leadership to staff.
  • Understanding of, and experience with, overseeing the software development lifecycle: solution analysis, architecture, and design; systems integration; data conversion and migration; environment management and build processes; and/or deployment planning, execution, and communications.
  • Strong experience working with, and/or working knowledge of, at least 4 of the following technological areas: Informatics, UI/UX principles , Software development, Cloud-native deployment and technologies, Container-based micro-service development (using Docker, Podman, and/or Kubernetes), Machine Learning (ML) or Natural Language Processing (NLP methods), Front-end web development using React, Angular, or other modern web development libraries and frameworks, Clinical, biomedical, or public health research data management including experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience leading project management efforts for large scale technical projects.
  • Comfortable organizing projects within MS Teams and SharePoint environments and leveraging project management software (e.g. Smartsheet).
  • Extensive experience in technical portfolio/project and operations management, including developing priorities, roadmaps, agile/sprint methodologies, and program portfolio management.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
