Job Brief:

The Manager, Learning & Development will develop and drive Corus' people-focused learning and development (L&D) initiatives. The goal of L&D is to increase employee knowledge and skills, identify and address knowledge and skills gaps, increase employee engagement by investing in their growth and development, and assist with retaining key staff. This role will lead the planning, developing, coordinating, and facilitating of key HR initiatives, such as performance management, DEI, and culture-building; but also support broad organizational learning around compliance, safeguarding, leadership development, etc.


Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Senior Director, Employee Experience and the Global HR team to identify needs and execute a global staff learning and development program aligned to organizational priorities.
  • Develop and lead trainings on key people-initiatives such as performance management, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), cultural values, and leadership development; also trainings focused on key global policies including, but not limited to, safeguarding, anti-sexual exploitation, and anti-harassment/bullying; prepare comprehensive scripting/storyboarding/ thematic/timelines; coordinate related instructional document preparation from support staff; prepare training status reports, exhibits, communications, and work with relevant internal depts/teams on content and delivery.
  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers and subject matter experts within Corus, including HR leaders, technical experts, and the DEI Staff Council.
  • Design and partner with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) to implement global onboarding and orientation programs.
  • Apply knowledge of various adult-learning methods (Virtual Classrooms (VC); E-Learning
  • (E-L); Instructor Lead Learning (ILT); Mobile Learning (ML) and Blended Learning (BL) to deliver trainings that will best address the needs of the Corus work force.
  • Assess and recommend professional trainings from external vendors, workshops, conferences, seminars, and other staff development opportunities.
  • Manage L&D consultants and vendors.
  • Ensure all learning opportunities offered to staff are culturally sensitive, promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and are compliant with policies, laws and regulations and the material is appropriate for the audience.
  • Prepare all staff communications related to learning and development activities.
  • Train other trainers and work closely with regional HRBPs to equip them to train their staff, evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training methods, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Equip HRBPs to measure and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the learning program by developing metrics, maintaining accurate records (i.e., attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements), and tracking results,
  • Conduct performance-based measurement assessments for objective evaluation of instructional programs; and training feedback surveys to continuously enhance and improve training delivery.
  • Develop reporting functions, including scorecards, dashboards, quarterly reports, board reports and annual summaries.
  • Manage donor regulation reporting related to training compliance; serve as HR point of contact for grants/programs inquiries on statistics related to compliance trainings.

Supervisory:

  • This role does not have any direct reports.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Prior experience providing training to employees, including Virtual Classrooms (VC); E-Learning (E-L); Instructor Lead Learning (ILT); Mobile Learning (ML) and Blended Learning (BL).
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Must be adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Experience developing training materials for diverse audiences, including individuals that do not speak English as their first language.
  • Experience working with interpreters and translators.
  • Prior experience working in Human Resources for a US headquartered international NGO, preferred.
  • Skilled at designing and implementing effective trainings that demonstrate an understanding of the audience and considers the audiences perspective; ability to prepare and deliver well-organized, impactful trainings that facilitate and transfer knowledge.
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
  • Ability to evaluate staff development programs and trainers.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform needs assessments and to analyze areas of strength and weakness
  • Collaborative approach to working but capable of working autonomously.
  • Professional English language skills required; knowledge of Spanish, Arabic and/or French is highly desirable.

  • The mental requirements that are essential to satisfactorily executing the responsibilities outlined in this job description include, but not limited to: learning new tasks, comprehending, and retaining information, completing tasks independently, effectively communicating verbally and in writing, demonstrating proficiency in using computer software to perform assigned tasks.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

  • Corus has a hybrid work policy, requiring 2-3 days/week minimum in the Baltimore or DC office.
  • The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours, including weekends, as required to meet deadline-based deliverables.
  • The employee must be able to travel as required for standard business purposes, both domestically and internationally.
