JOB SUMMARY:
The Financial Planning and Analysis Manager plays a pivotal role in driving financial performance, strategic decision-making, and long-term planning for Western States. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance, collaborating closely with the executive team and operational departments to provide insight and analysis that support the achievement of Western States' financial objectives. Responsibilities include managing companywide and department operating budgets and forecasting models for income, cash, and capital expenditures in addition to treasury management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety
  • Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
  • Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.

Financial Planning:
  • Develops and manages the annual budgeting process, including forecasting revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and forecast for the executive team, board of directors, and CAT.
  • Analyzes financial data, identifying trends and provides actionable recommendations to the executive team and senior management.
  • Performs business valuations analysis and presents information to management for potential acquisitions.

Performance Analysis:
  • Analyzes the performance of divisions and departments and provides recommendations so that management can effectively respond to problems and explore new opportunities.
  • Assists managers in the analysis of opportunities, processes, projects, and systems that may have a financial impact on the company.
  • Conducts financial analyses of proposed investments to ensure the company is making the best use of its capital, and that the proposed expenditures are consistent with company forecasts and approved budgets.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics to assess the company's financial health and performance against targets.
  • Conducts variance analysis to explain budget vs actual results and provide insights for improvement.

Strategic Planning:
  • Supports Western States Equipment's strategy of ensuring long-term profitability and growth across the organization. Analysis, tracking, reporting and coordination and insight of cost reduction/leakage projects is included.
  • Works closely with the executive team to formulate and execute strategic initiatives and business plans.
  • Conducts performance financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic decision making.
  • Collaborates with various departments to gather data and insight for financial analysis.

Financial Systems and Tools:
  • Utilizes advanced financial software and tools to streamline financial analysis and reporting processes.
  • Stays current on industry best practices and recommend improvements in financial systems and processes.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply financial principles and GAAP.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft computer products and experience with ERP accounting software.
  • Proven skills in written and verbal communications, planning, organizing, negotiation, listening, leadership and interpersonal relationship building.
  • Demonstrates desire to learn our business as a heavy equipment dealer.
  • Ability to change, adapt and innovate with a fast-changing business environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Be a team player and work/communicate across and with finance and operations departments.
  • Demonstrates initiative, with the capability and confidence to make on the spot decisions.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting methods
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to deal with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Able to communicate complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Creative and flexible with the ability to take a leadership role.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred.
  • CPA, CMA, or CFA preferred.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in finance or accounting in a position with similar responsibilities required.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
