To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor III, the Maintenance/Construction Technician III requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and machinery. Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Completing complex work assignments which require planning and/or coordinating multiple trade disciplines.
  • Working assigned tasks independently and referring very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration.
  • Supervising offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled, or of skilled maintenance assignments.
  • Ensuring compliance with work orders.
  • Maintaining equipment in proper working condition.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
About Columbus Correctional Institution:
Columbus Correctional Institution is located in Whiteville, North Carolina and houses up to 698 male offenders in a medium custody facility. Necessary Special Qualification:
