The City of Roanoke is seeking a Construction Crew Operator who primarily operates various heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to: excavator, dump truck, including automatic and manual transmission, backhoe, heavy front-end loader and/or skid steer in leveling ground surfaces and street/construction repair. Selected individual must possess a working knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of assigned equipment including cleaning, servicing, and replacing parts as well as trouble shooting equipment failures. Work may include repairs and renovations to stormwater conveyance system including pipes, manholes, and inlets. Must operate and assist in the use of associated hand tools needed to complete assigned tasks. Selected individual may also be assigned work requiring limited supervisory skills associated with oversight of daily activities.
Responsibilities include assisting supervisor with administrative tasks including, but not limited to cost accounting, payroll tracking, maps and website data updates. In the absence of the supervisor / crew lead, individual must be able to continue scheduled work with little to no supervision. Individual may assist with CCTV inspections and pipe cleaning operations. Follows safety regulations related to work area and equipment use. This position also requires coordination with other department technical and operational staff. Logging and reporting of daily work progress will be required. The position requires emergency standby work related to snow removal operation within the City, special events and emergency task. Standby work will include working some nights, holidays and weekends as needed. Possession of a Virginia, Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hiring date. Completion of other tasks and jobs supporting the division may be assigned.
