POSITION:           Maintenance Worker

DIVISION:            Administration- Facilities & Maintenance Operations 

LOCATION:          Los Angeles, CA

HIRING RATE:     $20.60/hourly

THE POSITION:

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing basic repairs and maintenance in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and electrical; performing general site and building cleaning; and moving and assembly of furniture and equipment on work orders assigned.  The Maintenance Worker reports to the Operations Manager and works independently and as part of a team to ensure that the facilities assigned to the position, are maintained in the best physical condition possible and that all service requests are completed in a professional and timely manner.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Perform thorough cleaning and maintenance of YRSP dormitories, including sanitation, bed preparation, and bathroom sterilization.
  • Conduct various repairs and maintenance tasks encompassing carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC systems.
  • Manage unit inspections, checklists, and prepare vacancies as directed.
  • Engage YRSP residents in cleaning activities in collaboration with program case management.
  • Conduct routine facility maintenance including graffiti removal, power washing, and debris cleanup.
  • Ensure scheduled cleaning of laundry rooms, common areas, and exterior spaces.
  • Implement floor cleaning schedules and upkeep, and manage cleaning supplies.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on pest control needs and room preparation.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, report hazards, and maintain detailed work logs.
  • Perform light janitorial tasks and remain available for emergency on-call duties.
  • Drive to other locations as instructed and attend mandatory staff meetings.
  • Undertake additional assignments delegated by the supervisor.

 

WHAT YOU’RE SKILLED AT:

  • Good use of sound judgment
  • Ability to read and write English and understand hazard labels on equipment and instructions for use and maintenance of equipment
  • Basic plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair knowledge
  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English is a plus

 

OTHER:

  • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical Exam
  • Ability to pass post offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 20% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and insurance in good standing
  • Comfortable working in a pet-friendly environment

     

    WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED:

    • General high school education, basic reading, writing and communication skills
    • Position requires a minimum of two (2) years general experience in building janitorial, trades, repair and maintenance, or handyman work
