Job description

The Open Space division of the Neighborhood Services department is recruiting for part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) positions. The PTS Maintenance Worker position will assist in the care and maintenance of the various City Open Spaces, trails, and facilities, both during the week and on the weekends.PTS Maintenance Worker I - $17.61/hourPTS Maintenance Worker II - $20.62/hour (weekends)DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares and maintains Open Spaces trails and trail headsPerforms general landscape and tree maintenance, including clearing bush, weeds, and trashAssists with the organization and leading of volunteer groups on projects Builds and maintains trails, fencing, and other projects as assignedPrepares open space areas for special eventsClears fallen trees from trails, parking lots, and other areasEstablishes working relationships with City staff and members of the publicPreforms other duties as assignedEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED equivalentPossession of a valid California Class C driver license and safe driving record is requiredA minimum of six months of experience in a maintenance field (for example: grounds maintenance, landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, etc.) or other related experience or trainingAny combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be consideredKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Ability to work 16-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; may include weekendsAbility to perform physical labor, bending, and squattingAbility to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or moreAbility to work outdoors and in inclement weatherAbility to operate various small power toolsAbility to follow proper safety protocol and pay strict attention to safety at all timesBasic computer skills and the ability to enter service requests using a mobile deviceStrong communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally and tactfully with City employees and members of the publicStrong work ethic and the ability to work independently and as part of a teamStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and make sound decisionsAn online completed City application form is required to apply for this position.
