Description
Under supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment at the Mojave Air and Space Port.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Airports Maintenance Worker II is the experienced level of the flexible classification series within the Mojave Air and Space Port Facilities Maintenance Department.
Essential Functions:
Works within the airfield movement areas, checks buildings, equipment, and grounds to locate conditions indicating the need for repair and maintenance work
Makes building repairs involving plumbing, irrigation systems, painting, carpentry, mechanical, structural, flooring, and/or simple electrical work
Performs airfield maintenance with large commercial tractors and rotary equipment
Uses a variety of hand and power tools in the performance of work
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Operates a personal computer and/or mobile device, using a variety of software applications to complete work
Repairs furniture and equipment
Builds small structures
Mixes, pours, and assists in finishing concrete and asphalt
Operates light and/or heavy motorized equipment, digs ditches and lays pipe
Operates and maintains pumps
Maintains and repairs sprinklers, drip irrigation systems, and control valves
Installs irrigation systems
Performs minor brazing, soldering and minor welding
Performs minor painting assignments
Assists with roofing
Performs cold patches and minor road repairs
Performs minor plumbing repairs
Installs and repairs fencing, gates and commercial garage doors
Repairs small appliances, tools, and pieces of equipment
Performs refuse removal and processing
Performs a variety of cleaning and janitorial duties as necessary.
Installs dry wall
Performs other related work as required
Employment Standards
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Qualifying related work experience may include experience in airfield movement areas including building maintenance and repair involving minor carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing work.
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
Knowledge of the principles of airfield movement areas, general maintenance practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades; commercial tractors and rotary equipment; plumbing and electrical equipment used in buildings and grounds; minor road, fence and commercial building repairs.
Ability to:
Determine the need for repairs in airfield movement areas; use hand tools utilized in the building trades; follow oral and written directions; use commercial tractors and rotary equipment; use good body mechanics and follow basic safety practices in the performance of job duties; operate a personal computer, mobile device and associated software. Maintenance workers participate in a 4/10 schedule and may be assigned to work any 4-day combination of a 7-day week including Saturday or Sunday.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
