Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
To support the Training Manager in implementing the apprenticeship program and participating in the current training of bus maintenance personnel in the proper service, repair, and maintenance of diesel and battery-powered buses, and non-revenue vehicles. Instructs proper use and maintenance care of vehicle test equipment, tools, and shop equipment. Accurately documents all apprenticeship and maintenance employee training records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitors the training compliance with the requirements of maintenance trades on high voltage, electrical, HVAC, and mechanicals on all vehicles, and equipment.
Provide instruction to Pre-Apprentice, Apprentice, and Classified-Level Mechanics on the proper and safe techniques and procedures for the repair and maintenance of all components.
Collaborate with Service Managers and Supervisors in developing future apprenticeship and re-training programs.
Plan, schedule, prioritize, and organize the work of bus Maintenance Training personnel for optimal effectiveness and efficiency of production while meeting established standards and deadlines.
Provide effective training to maintenance personnel in bus maintenance practices, theory, and skill, incorporating new methods, technologies, and approaches as appropriate.
Help with assessments and workplace competency of transit equipment repair.
Assist, write, edit, and produce materials for training instruction.
Develop training schedules and facilitate training as per skills training matrix for current employees and new hires, and for any retraining/refresher training needs identified; maintain training and competency records in the HR system.
Ensure all operating standards/procedures are accurate and fully communicated to all maintenance employees.
Observe and evaluate the performance of Trainees in the classroom, and on the job; administer tests, recommend appropriate scheduling, and additional training to the Training Manager.
Coordinate with IPTC Human Resources Learning and Development team regarding any additional employee training needs.
Ensure department training guide and qualification record system are updated.
Establish and maintain a productive and motivational training environment in and out of the classroom and cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Coordinate with both the Director of Preventative Maintenance and the Director of Fleet & Inventory Control.
Perform other duties as assigned.
