Maintenance Technician – Swing Shift
Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician will monitor, repair and maintain the plant’s production equipment as well as perform maintenance on the facility and its utilities. This includes performing preventative, corrective, and diagnostic maintenance tasks on assigned equipment, setting up and testing equipment for startup and inspecting, lubricating and making necessary repairs to equipment. Successful candidates will to use their troubleshooting skills and experience to resolve technical, mechanical, electrical, and programming problems that may occur.
Essential Functions:
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner. This is not only an essential function but a condition of employment.
- The ability to work with a team, understand and apply basic mechanical concepts and accept training and constructive criticism are imperative. The following functions are expected to be achievable with reasonable training and guidance.
- Troubleshoot and maintain processing equipment both mechanical and electrical
- Inspect, recognize potential problems and take appropriate action to prevent component failure
- Monitor machinery to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Assist team leaders and machine operators in efficient line start up and equipment adjustments
- Perform building maintenance and repairs as needed
- Maintain documentation related to maintenance tasks
- Weld and fabricate machinery when necessary
- Maintenance, repair, service or installation may include but not limited to:
- VF Drives
- Pumps / motors
- Conveyor systems
- AC / DC controls
- Pneumatics
- Frequency control drives
- Hydraulic and electrical equipment
- Refrigeration / Freezer systems and controls
- Electronic controls
- Boiler controls
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor to schedule and develop routine and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Work closely with new hires, train, evaluate and document their progress to ensure they are capable of performing maintenance functions prior to allowing them to work on equipment unsupervised.
- Manage the routine and preventative maintenance of the plant equipment.
- Maintain the schedule and adjust accordingly to maintain a positive work/life balance in conjunction with the flexibility requirements of customer demands.
- POC for team members requiring assistance with non-standard work, emergency repairs and vendor contact.
- Set the pace for the team with regards to work ethics, safety, GMPs and attitude.
- Assist team members when faced with challenges they are unable to overcome.
- Other miscellaneous duties as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Some college coursework preferred
- 2+ years maintenance mechanic experience
- Experience in a production/manufacturing environment preferred
- MIG / TIG welding and fabrication of stainless preferred
- Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) License preferred but not required
- Forklift experience preferred
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and components including chains, sprockets, gears, bushings, bearings, gear boxes and other moving parts
- Bilingual is a plus (English/Spanish)
- Problem solving and diagnosis skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors and department managers required
- Basic math skills
- Self-starter, ability to work alone
- Good organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Availability and willingness to work flexible job hours as needed
Working Conditions/Physical Factors:
- Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Worker may be exposed to a loud working environment.
- Worker may be exposed to hazards in the workplace such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving parts and electrical current.
- Must be able to work in an environment containing allergens (nuts, milk, wheat, etc.)
- Must be able to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally required to use hands and fingers.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to taste and smell.
- Frequently required to lift / push / pull / carry weight up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include: close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Schedule: Swing Shift – Tuesday-Saturday, 1pm-10pm
Payrate: $27-$32.00/hour
