Job Description Summary
The city of Goodyear is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic I to join the team. This position will perform semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment at water and wastewater system facilities. Work/tasks involve the operation of machinery, but the emphasis is on servicing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on various equipment. This position may be required to assist skilled workers with complex equipment repairs.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience repairing motors, pumps, or other equipment (related to the Water and Reclaimed Water field), copper pipe, PVC fittings, and piping. Certifications from a certified trade school is highly desirable. We desire a teammate who is a self-starter and has the ability to work individually and in a team environment. Safety is our number one priority. Therefore, knowledge of operating equipment and vehicles according to standard operating and safety procedures is strongly desired.

Essential Functions
- Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
- Experience: Minimum one year of experience in a related field.
- Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Driver's license.
- Reading: Work requires the ability to read O&M manuals, memos, and work assignments.
- Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculation such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Writing: Work requires the ability to write repair work orders.
- Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure.
- Policy/Decision Making: Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review
- Technical Skills: Limited Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.

Requirements
- Carries out an on-going inspection and preventative maintenance program to ensure adequate mechanical operation includes: cleaning, adjusting, aligning, and lubricating equipment in compliance with preventative maintenance programs.
- Troubleshoots equipment as referred by work orders or verbal directions, determines necessary repairs, makes recommendations to supervisor regarding actions needed, and performs such work as feasible and appropriate.
- Assists with repairs to pumps, motors, sludge centrifuge gear drives, mechanical bar screens, chlorinators, air compressors, valves, blowers, booster pumps, well sites, and other types of equipment related to water or wastewater facilities. Completes assigned job specific training criteria and objectives.
- Under supervision, utilizes a variety of mechanical tools to fabricate, rebuild, strengthen, and maintain various parts and pieces of plant equipment.
- Maintains work records, work order process, preventative maintenance records, and computer directed preventative maintenance records as required.
- Assists with picking up supplies and materials as required for completion of various work assignments.
- Operates electrical and mechanical equipment to diagnose problems and determine repairs as needed.
- Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.
- Works in a safe manner when performing mechanical maintenance and repair work of facilities.
12 Month Objectives
3 months
- Read and understand the city and public works department policies and procedures
- Complete assigned training in Target solutions
- Learn the location of the Water Reclamation sites
- Be able to perform weekly and monthly preventive maintenance at the water reclamation sites without supervision
- Learn the location of Water Production sites
- Learn the location of our important venders
- Understand our SCADA system and the major components
- Become qualified to operate unit 1230 crane
- By twelve months, become confined space qualified
- Become Public works forklift-certified
- By twelve months, become on-call qualified
- By twelve months, assist in the yearly Flygt pump and gearbox maintenance
- Become qualified to operate unit 478 crane
