ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Maintenance Lead has direct responsibility to lead, direct, train and coordinate their maintenance team in ensuring that all machinery and production lines are running efficiently while ensuring employee and product safety. They are also required to maintain a good working relationship with all internal customers.
SCHEDULE: Day shift position 7:00am - 3:30pm Sunday - Thursday.
WAGE: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads must also possess a strong working background in the repair of pneumatics, mechanics, electrical, electronics, PLC’s, servos, and vacuum equipment/machinery.
- Proficient in all aspects required of level 1, 2 and 3 level mechanics.
- Capable of understanding electrical schematics and a proficiency at operating a variety of hand and power tools.
- Train, develop and monitor employees to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their specified job.
- Instruct and monitor employees to work in a safe manner, as per lock out – tag out procedures and company safety guidelines.
- Conduct Safety discussions and overviews once a month with their teams as noted by the safety committee and chairman.
- Report any safety hazards to the maintenance supervisor.
- Maintain a packaging/processing environment that abides by all quality assurance and government regulated standards.
- Find innovative ways to improve processes to increase output, improve quality, and reduce costs through employee involvement and coordinating implementation of ideas.
- Troubleshoot problems as quickly and efficiently as possible, to sustain continuous production.
- Establish expectations through delegation and assign duties or tasks to employees in an organized manner to support efficient production.
- Substantiate that proper GMP measures are followed by instructing employees on proper company procedures and then monitoring to ensure compliance.
- Provide timely, constructive, and continual performance feedback to all employees, both formal and informal.
- Complete and administer employee reviews.
- Assist maintenance supervisor by identifying needs of production, setting up jobs each day, ordering parts and directing crews on various projects.
- Encourage safety by insisting on a safe working environment and that employees are following good safety practices.
- Maintain the operation of production lines by providing simple “on-line” repairs on all packaging/processing lines, which consist of the following equipment:
- Tiromats
- Gator Machines
- Toby Slicer
- Conveyors
- Code Dater
- Tap Machines
- Stick Puller
- Slicing Equipment
- Ishida Scales
- Webomatics
- Klockner
- Boiler
- Air compressors
- Crown Jacks and Forklifts
- Cryovac 8300
- Plant lighting and electrical
- Smokehouses
- Troubleshoot the source of the equipment failure and to then adjust, repair or replace parts as needed using standard hand and power tools, including specialty tools such as volt OHM Meter. Performs these tasks at the request of the Lead Mechanic, Maintenance Mechanic, or Production Personnel.
- At the commencement of the shift, consult the production schedule for the day and sets up the machines accordingly.
- Initiates operation of equipment to commence sift on a timely basis.
- Report to Lead and/or Maintenance Manager with any reasons for delaying shift starts.
- Change over dies of packing equipment per schedule.
- Responsible for submitting any parts requisition forms for low inventoried or non-inventoried stock.
- Determine part number from catalog when requesting items.
- May be required to fabricate a needed part if availability is limited by use of grinder, drill press and gas welding and soldering equipment.
- Responsible for reviewing and monitoring employee time records, adjusting and submitting pay, department, time off requests and other payroll documents.
- Monitor and track employee attendance and follow-up with appropriate corrective action.
- Generate, maintain, and file paperwork necessary for work orders and preventative maintenance programs.
- Monitor parts issued from inventory and maintain inventory control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum High school education, plus 5 years’ experience in the maintenance field. 3 years’ work experience in manufacturing and packaging. College graduate preferred.
- Background in pneumatics, mechanics, refrigeration, boiler, and electrical repairs.
- Welding experience.
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role.
