Metro Transit's Rail Division has an exciting career service opportunity for Lead Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers! The Lead will provide direction to a group of Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers, who communicate with multiple Rail sections, including Sound Transit and King County Transit at all levels for special materials management-related projects, requisitioning parts, warranty administration, and creating Excel reports pertaining to inventory and/or finance. Other position responsibilities include maintaining inventory, issuing and receiving parts, purchasing, maintaining stock levels, and opening and closing work orders.
Link Light Rail
Metro Transit's Rail Division is responsible for operating and maintaining Link Light Rail service on a 24.7 mile route from south of Sea-Tac Airport to Northgate. Expansion over the next five years alone will include the addition of more than 20 stations and 40 miles of light rail track which is a critical part of the region's transportation network. The light rail line is a critical part of the region's transportation network and carries more than 79,000 weekday daily riders. Who May Apply

Per union contract, first preference will be given to current Metro employees in the Rail Maintenance Service Center Worker classification who have passed probation by the last day applications are accepted. Should no Rail Division employees as described above apply, qualify and be selected, 2nd preference will be given to other Metro or King County employees who meet the qualification requirements. Should no King County employees meet these qualifications and be selected, applicants from the general public will be considered.
Work Schedule
This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Employees will work a 40-hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off. The work schedule may include non- standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system. Per the union contract shift differentials are paid to those working second and third shifts. Shift pay is 5% for second shift and 7.5% for third shift, on top of hourly pay.
Current Rates:
Day shift $41.67 | Second/ Swing shift $43.75 | Third/ graveyard shift $44.08

Employees may report to any of the following locations: Rail Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) Central at 3407 Airport Way S, Seattle WA 98134 or OMF East 1925 120th Ave NE Bellevue WA 98005, or any other locations that may be added or changed in the future.

As the Lead Rail Maintenance Service Center Worker, you will perform the full range of responsibilities of the Rail MSC Worker classification and also the following:
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of and provide technical assistance to Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers; ensuring quality and adherence to policies and procedures; recommend corrective actions to higher-level staff when necessary.
  • Determine work priorities and ensure there is sufficient staff and assign tasks to the appropriate MSC Worker.
  • Train staff in purchasing requirements, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and warranty administration.
  • Produce all reports, data as requested or assigned by higher-level staff.
  • Purchase parts and products, create requisitions using our Oracle system for goods and services; reconcile or track budgets relating to expenses.
  • Issue materials, supplies, and equipment; sort and stock items in designated areas.
  • Verify items received for description, requisition number, order dates and quantity and records receipt; verify receipts against work orders for vehicles or system equipment awaiting parts.
  • Enter all transactions and related data into a computer information tracking system ensuring all maintenance and warranty information is complete and entered properly.
  • Conduct and record physical inventory of stock items on a regular basis; issue tools and store tools upon return; ship parts and equipment to vendors.
  • Assist Chiefs in gathering and maintaining information required to establish a schedule of maintenance activities for vehicles, equipment, and related items.
  • Assist in determining life cycle trends of parts, materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts; pick up and deliver parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years' experience with materials management, inventory control of parts, materials, supplies and equipment, which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work
  • Demonstrated experience leading/managing a group of diverse individuals
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and maintenance management information systems (MMIS) used for parts ordering, inventory management and purchasing
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships; demonstrated values of respect and social equity in working effectively with a diverse population in varying occupations or situations
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of and skill in the application of practices of materials management, purchasing and inventory control; quality assurance and warranty control programs
  • Knowledge of warranty agreement terms and conditions
  • Knowledge of and skill in the application of stocking and inventory control principles
  • Working knowledge of or familiarity with common parts, materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Skill in reviewing, interpreting and understanding technical reports and warranty agreements
  • Excellent oral and written communications intended for all staff levels of the organization; including reading, business writing and following instructions
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced skill and knowledge in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Washington State Class B driver's license with airbrake endorsement
Necessary Special Requirements
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License (by hire date) and an acceptable driving record Must pass reference check
  • Ability to operate forklifts (training provided).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The job requires basic levels of physical skill, including regular kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching above and below the waist, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. It will also require occasional lifting and carrying of items, weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance and/or with the use of material handling equipment. It may also include pick-up, moving/transferring, and delivery of parts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an industrial setting where the worker is exposed to or in close proximity to heavy operating machinery, high voltage, adverse weather conditions, uneven surfaces; catwalks/metal grating, noxious or toxic gasses and chemicals. The noise level is quiet to occasionally loud. Hearing protection and eye protection are required in some areas, and hard hats and other appropriate personal protective equipment may be required on occasion.Want to make sure your application materials are as competitive as possible?
