Job description

Responsibilities

Responsible for the repair, preventative maintenance, installation, and testing of electrical equipment and building electrical systems or mechanical infrastructure systems. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on Critical, Life Safety emergency power systems and patient related equipment. Performs electrical installation and replacement of equipment and electrical system components under the governance of state and local electrical inspectors, including but not limited to: circuit breakers, receptacles, switches, lamps, ballasts, LED drivers, LED light modules, electric door operators, UPS batteries, variable frequency drives, electric motors and bearings. Must be available to work overtime as necessary, frequently unscheduled. Provide 24/7 on-call support for electrical systems on a rotating schedule. Operate a variety of electrical and electronic test equipment. Must be able to prioritize work to ensure the needs of the patient come first. Capable to diagnose electrical circuit problems. Performs all duties following safe electrical work procedures. Tests various electrical systems and documents as required by NFPA code 70, 110, 101 and 99. Will be knowledgeable and compliant with The Joint Commission regulations.

Schedule Details

This is a full time position Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 80 hours per pay period, with an on call rotation, Overtime planned and unplanned as needed.

Qualifications

A two-year electrical degree or an associate degree in electrical maintenance from an accredited Electrical Maintenance/Construction course or Building Infrastructure System Maintenance course or 4 years of experience with power distribution, lighting, motor and electrical controls.

Additional Qualifications

Electrical maintenance experience in a health care setting is preferable. Electrician must be able to diagnose electrical circuit problems independently on energized circuits. Electrician is required to have computer skills to program and run diagnostics on networked electrical controls. Electrician will be required to complete National Electric Code (NFPA 70) training every two years to maintain electrical license. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, organize jobs and work effectively with other employees. Person must be able to read electric schematics, drawing schematics will be required. Be able to work independently on most assignments. The ability to use proper precaution to avoid potential exposure to arc flash, chemical vapors, infectious agents, hazardous substances, rotating machinery and fall hazards.

License or Certification

Specific requirements based on campus location (review for each posting): A Minnesota driver's license is required. At the time of employment, employee must register with MN Department of Labor and Industry (MN DLI) as an unlicensed individual required. Minnesota Maintenance Electrician License or Minnesota-A-Journeyworker License is preferred.
