Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking customer service oriented individuals with strong attention to detail to apply for the Mail Services Clerk position.
Mail Services Clerk processes incoming and outgoing mail and parcels for the offices of the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and its client districts.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
  • Guidelines, procedures, and regulations of shipping, receiving, delivering, and distributing mail
  • Proper operation of postage meters, bundle-tiers, scales, and related equipment
  • United States postal regulations, rates, and procedures
  • Basic mail and postage terminology
  • Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Basic principles and practices of record-keeping

Required Education and ExperienceEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in receiving, sorting, and distributing mail and packages in a mailroom, warehouse, shipping, or logistics setting.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and proof of insurability are required.
Positions in this classification requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Based on full-time assignment:
  • Although new employees usually begin at the first salary step, advanced salary step placement may be requested
