Caltrol, Inc is looking for a full-time Manual Machinist to join our Service Group.
Our ideal candidate has demonstrable experience operating manual turning lathes, mills, horizonal and vertical boring machines to machine components back to factory defined critical dimensions. Strong attention to safety and detail is required. Some OT and travel between shops including periodic overnights required.

Hiring Range
The hiring range for this position is $25 - $33 p/hour. This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience of the candidate along with the requirements of the position.
What you'll be doing:
- Adherence to all safety, quality and environmental rules and policies.
- Machine parts to specifications using various manual machines.
- Check valve components for correctness, tolerances, and defects using calipers, depth gauges and other measuring devices.
- Set-up, indicate, and machine raw material (bar stock, forgings, and castings) to OEM specs.
- Work with technicians to evaluate parts and check critical dimensions against drawings.
- Operation and maintenance of all manual machinery such as mills, lathes, grinders, and drill press.
- Potential for field assignments using in-line machine.
- Assist in other duties during down time such as, pick ups deliveries, assembly, teardown and receiving.
- Assist and support customers.
- Flexibility to work in various departments.
Skills:
- Hand tool and power tool experience.
- Caliper and height gauge experience.
- Ability to make parts per sample.
- Excellent math skills.
- Basic computer skills: MS Outlook and ability to navigate and comprehend basic applications.
- Ability to work with others in a team.
What we’re looking for:
- 1-5 years experience with running and setting up manual machines.
- Trade school or equivalent experience.
- Must understand different material properties, cutting tools, speed, and feeds.
- Demonstrable ability to operate manual lathe, mills, drill presses, horizonal and vertical boring machines and VTL's (Vertical Turning Lathes).
- Must be available for overtime, including weekends and out of state or last-minute emergency work.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an excellent driving record.
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of how control valves or isolation valves work.
- Strong mechanical background.
- Engineering experience.
- Experience working with local customers.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to wear maximum level of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction which may include but is not limited to hardhat; safety glasses; fire resistant clothing; safety-toed footwear; hearing protection; respiratory protection, etc.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to walk and stand 8 hours per day.
- Frequent climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
- Hazards: Potential exposure to chemicals. Proximity to moving mechanical and mobile equipment.
- Must be able to work outside in varying environmental conditions.
Travel:
20% traveling, mainly shop work. Travel between other shops including periodic overnights.
