Brief Summary of Job: The Machine operator is an operations team member responsible for job activities

required to support production processes.

Machine Operator assists in the set-up and operation of machines, supplies materials and tools, loading

and unloading raw materials and items from machines and assembly lines. They assist other workers by

cleaning work areas, packaging materials, disassembling, and reassembling equipment. Employees in this

job position will assist in mentoring employees that are General Laborer 1.

They also locate parts, tag them with identifying text and numbers, and record production information

such as measurements, machine settings, readings, products produced and manufacturing times. If they

locate defective products or observe equipment malfunctions, they must report the problems to higher-

level employees, and if necessary, assist with any fixes.

A strong work ethic is required and an aptitude for mechanics and the production of high-quality products.

Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work safely in a team environment.

• Must be able / willing to perform all tasks, essential duties, and responsibilities of the machine operator position.

• Plans and develops layouts according to blueprints, work orders, verbal instructions, work

instructions, and /or sample parts, using instruments, such as compass, protractor, dividers, and

ruler, and marks shape and reference points, using scriber, pencil, chalk line, and / or a punch.

• Must be able to perform periodic quality checks within their assigned work cell.

• Loads and unloads materials, parts, or products onto or from pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks.

• Feeds metal parts or stock into metal working machines and removes parts from machines after

prescribed period of time or at the end of cycle.

• Processes parts to specified requirements. Operations include sawing, punching, drilling, grinding,

end bending, use of the ironworker, and basic hand tools and powered hand tools.

• Assists other employees in the operation of equipment and processing of materials.

• Performs 5 activities on a daily basis:

o Organize work area including toolboxes, shadow boards and parts cabinets neatly

o Clean the work area by conducting a cleanup campaign.

o Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of assigned work area.

o Promptly notify the supervisor when stock levels are low of dies, punches, fasteners, etc.

o Removes metal chips and shavings from surfaces on machines and wipes surfaces of

machines to remove excess oil. Separates metal shavings, chips, and scrap materials from

trash and places them in appropriate bins.

• Adds coolant to reservoirs of machines, lubricates equipment, performs daily equipment

preventative maintenance and safety checks.

• Adheres to company safety policies.

• Other tasks as assigned.

Education or Equivalent Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma, General Education Degree (GED); or 1-3 years related experience and or

training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

• Ability to read detailed shop prints and measuring tools.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure (using whole numbers and

fractions).

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,

or diagram form.

• Ability to identify problems and seek help when needed in solving them.

• Adapts to change, is open to new ideas, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure, and

adjusts plans to meet changing needs.

• Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal

Physical Requirements:

• Continually handles objects weighing up to 30 lbs. and occasionally objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger,

handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required

to sit, stand, walk; and stoop, kneel or crouch.

• Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,

peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment:

• Work is performed in a production environment with temperature exposures that are impacted by

seasonal weather conditions, due to limited heat sources and no air-conditioning. Regularly

exposed to:

o Temperatures that are not controlled or monitored.

o Regularly exposed to dust, odor, oil, gas, and noise.

• Mandatory requirement to wear appropriate PPE (personal, protective equipment) as defined by

task and/or work area that can include all of some of the following: safety glasses, 6-inch Leather

steel toe, boots, gloves, hard hat, ear plugs, face mask, welder’s mask and any other proper

clothing as required.
