Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), under general supervision, performs the day to day CMA/nursing duties for a specifically assigned Sports Medicine physician through treatment, discharge, and follow-up of the patient.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an Accredited LPN Program or Certified Medical Assistant program with active LPN/Certified Medical Assistant license.
  • 1-3 years clinical experience required.
  • 1-3 years Sports Medicine clinical experience preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Escorts patients to examining rooms, takes detailed medical histories, and determines the reason for the visit.
  • Checking voicemail and returning patient and pharmacy phone calls.
  • Taking hospital and ER consults and relay to proper physician or staff member.
  • Obtaining and updating patient information in practice management system.
  • Obtaining wound cultures.
  • Administering injections and medications.
  • Performing casting (application and removal).
  • Performing suture, staple removal, and dressing changes.
  • Perform autoclave duties.
  • Communicating clinical information for outside diagnostic testing (MRI, CT, EMG/NCV, etc.).
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the physician's specialty, through CME's and other classes to remain proficient in the related field of nursing (if LPN).
  • May be required to work for non-assigned physicians.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of HIPAA.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be proficient with computer software such as Microsoft Office, Windows, etc.
  • Must have previous experience and be proficient working with EMR and healthcare-related software
  • Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and abbreviations.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or working at a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
