Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm, limited evenings and weekends
Job Summary: The Medical Assistant will assist nurses and nurse practitioners with the basic functions of a medical office.
Additional Department Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for facilitating quality patient care at the University Medical Center Sports Medicine Clinic. Provides medical/surgical assistance to physicians and nurses and prepares patients for consultations. Provides general clinical assistance as needed; duties include staffing receptionist desk, screening calls, making referrals, verifying insurances, scheduling appointments and follow-up visits. Assists in providing nursing care as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma and at least six months of experience in a medical office setting.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform patient care as directed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or other qualified medical professional. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills; excellent communication, public relations, and customer service and telephone etiquette skills. Willingness to learn and consistently deliver patient-centered, high-quality customer service. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times. Punctual and reliable.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified to perform Medical Assistant duties in the State of Alabama. Experience with computers and Electronic Health records systems.
