Shawnee Health is seeking a LPN-School Nursefor our opening at District 95 Carbondale Elementary School. This position reports directly to the District 95School Nurse Manager.
- Answers school telephone system, coordinates care of students with acute and chronic conditions, triages school emergencies. Provides services to students according to established protocol. Contacts students/parents by phone as needed to update and relay information regarding student. Changes/updates voice mail message as necessary.
- Orders supplies, maintains inventory of office and medical supplies, forms, etc., for the School Nurse function. Maintains pending and completed purchase order files.
- Maintains a working knowledge of community and area resources. Refers students to these resources as appropriate; refers students to other SHS resources as needed; may function as an advocate for the student in securing other services.
- Maintains and manages inventory of student medications and drugs in regular intervals, records all medications and injections given to students, and follows medication policies and procedures.
- Complies with policies and procedures regarding facility close down and security.
- Collects data to complete School Nurse Activities report twice yearly as directed by administrative staff.
- Assures that all medical supplies and equipment is maintained in proper working order, including cleaning of equipment. Reports any problems/malfunctions to administration or School Nurse Manager.
- Maintains an open nurse’s office at the assigned school for student’s needs. Provides first aid services for home and minor injuries that occurred during school.
- Assumes authority for the care of students or staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness.
- Maintains up-to-date health records on students including insuring all students and new students comply with physical examinations, dental exams, eye exams and immunizations requirements.
- Contacts parents of ill or injured students and informs attendance office of excused absence.
- Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and auto liability insurance on personal vehicles.
- Must have a valid Illinois unencumbered nursing license to practice as a LPN.
- BLS certification must be maintained.
- 12 vacation days earned in the first year
- 11 paid personal days/holidays per calendar year
