- Hours: Mon- Fri: 7:45 a.m.- 3:45 p.m.; however may vary by 15 minutes earlier of arrival or departure if needed for assignment.
Primary Job: To provide direct nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community. All duties are performed in accordance with district and state board of education policies and procedures and state law regarding nursing practice.
Requirements:
- Current Illinois Professional Registered Nurse Licensure
- Current Healthcare provider CPR/AED certification.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- May be required to complete Medical Review for Special Education evaluations if staff member has completed the required IEP Medical Review class offered by ISBE and successfully passed the exam for the course.
- May be required to complete health related 504 plans.
- Previous School Nursing Experience, preferred
Assignment: School assignments will be made by School Health Supervisor and scheduling will be coordinated according to needs for nursing coverage within department. This position requires flexibility of school assignment based upon departmental needs.

Professional Responsibilities:
- Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures.
- Maintain accurate health documentation accordingly with delivery of health services.
- Maintains accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related responsibilities.
- Administer medication according to written physician orders, with appropriate documentation.
- Develops and maintains communication with teachers, parents/guardians, other school personnel, outside healthcare providers, and Health Services Supervisor to enhance action which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
- Communicate student medical concerns information to appropriate school personnel.
- Communicate to appropriate school personnel student specific information regarding medical regimens and/or medications.
- Refer unusual medical concerns to the School Health Supervisor or Coordinator.
- Discuss with appropriate supervisor concerns within school that affect job performance.
- Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
- Prepare all health office related materials for field trips as needed.
- Maintain current RN licensure, medical expertise and Healthcare provider CPR/AED certification.
- Maintain current knowledge of state compliance guidelines, incorporating changes as notified by IDPH.
- May be required to complete Medical Review for Special Education evaluations if staff member has completed the required IEP Medical Review class offered by ISBE and successfully passed the exam for the course.
- May be required to complete health related 504 plans.
- Perform and complete other tasks related to the job as assigned by the School Nurse Coordinator and/or Supervisor
