Job Description:
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for negotiating contracts, freight and spot market rates with shippers and carriers to achieve targeted profit and budget. Monitor freight loads and investigate and resolve load issues in timely manner.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assign carriers and book loads.
- Coordinate with carriers to ensure on-time delivery by tracking trucks for pick-up, estimating times of arrival and delivery and recovering loads when necessary.
- Respond to customer needs by answering emails, phone calls, tracking shipments, and moving shipments.
- Perform inbound load planning activities through consolidation of purchase orders, routing, and carrier selection to meet service expectations for freight type and delivery date.
- Identify and select the best mode of transportation to reduce costs.
- Develop relationships with current and new carriers and continually negotiate competitive rates with an entire carrier pool.
- Process load tenders and follow through to ensure load acceptance by selected carriers.
- Track loads to ensure on-time delivery and proactively communicate potential delivery delays to stores/buyers/management.
- Communicate and escalate issues as they arise to management.
- Act as resource to less relevant experienced associates.
Requirements:
- 1-2+ years relevant experience
- Transportation experience and specifically carriers development experience preferred.
- Extremely organized with excellent attention to-detail
- Extremely effective with communication skills
- Good customer service and clerical skills
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Able to plan LTL and FTL
- Strong negotiation skills
- Detailed oriented
