Corso's Horticulture is a division within the parent company of August Corso Sons, Inc. which includes additional branches for garden center, nursery, floral, and landscape.
Producing over 10 million plants a year to supply major retailers throughout the Midwest, Great Lakes, and New England, Corso's Horticulture has grown to become one of the largest and most influential perennial growers in the United States.
Position Summary:
Local in and out Truck Driver position. You will be home every day! Opportunity for Overtime and Cart Pay. Work as a valued member of the shipping operations. This position will primarily consist of transporting merchandise and product to other destinations which may require variable hours (5 days weeks with occasional Saturdays. Full product carts weigh 400lbs-1000lbs depending on product. Live-roof carts weigh 1100lbs.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- When needed, load and unload truck with product and carts.
- Must be able to spot trailers and back trailers in and out of receiving dock as well as service bays at service providers.
- Ability to maneuver trailers in and around tight corners.
- On a daily basis, load and break down carts when needed.
- Check and maintain appropriate levels of fuel, oil and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) prior to loading.
- Inspect truck to ensure working conditions of brakes, lights, wipers, windshield, fire extinguisher, flares and other safety equipment in the truck.
- Adjust mirrors on both sides of the truck to ensure clear visibility from the driver's seat.
- Maintain pre-trip inspection, record inspections and repairs, trip records, and log book.
- Report all accidents and citations.
- Complete a repair sheet for any equipment in the truck that is inoperable, missing, or need of repair.
- Inspect freight for securement.
- In the event of a break down on the road, follow break down protocol.
- Call or text direct report with the estimated time of arrival and cart count.
- Deliver empty carts to various locations and pick up materials as needed prior to returning to base.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 21 years old, high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain valid Driver's License and valid CDL, Class A with all the necessary endorsements.
- Maintain all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA, and company safety programs.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull 5-50lbs. frequently.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner at all times.
- Must have reliable transportation and good attendance.
Working Conditions & Requirements
Corso's Horticulture operates year around with exposure to all seasons and weather conditions. Candidates must be willing to work in cold, hot, humid, rainy, and windy conditions. Additional requirements include:
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Excellent attendance
- Ability to stand, climb, squat, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift 35-50 pounds, regularly
- Ability to push/pull multiple fully-loaded carts
- Willing to work flexible and long hours during peak season, with weekends required
- Use of personal cell phone for workplace responsibilities may be required occasionally
