A Loan Assistant works closely with customers, lenders and across departments. This person is responsible for facilitating and assisting in daily credit operational functions for the bank, completing loan documentation and other loan functions. They require strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. The position requires a self-starter with the ability to exercise independent judgement, can multi-task with a sense of urgency to ensure critical deadlines are met.
Responsibilities:
- Assist loan officers in processing loan applications and documentation
- Prepare and organize loan documents for underwriting and closing
- Obtain appropriate supporting documentation including title work, flood and OFAC searches, insurance, organizational documents, real estate collateral documents and various due diligence items to verify compliance with loan approval and bank closing procedures.
- Communicate with borrowers, lenders, and other parties involved in the loan process
- Provide excellent customer service to borrowers and answer any questions they may have
- Providing an exceptional level of service to internal customers and other departments within the bank.
- Maintain accurate records of loan transactions and update loan files, physically and electronically.
- Review loan files for completeness and accuracy
- Cross trains in daily operation functions including maintenance.
- Process and assist with daily operational balancing and reporting.
- Assist with escrow account management and disbursements
- Maintaining knowledge and understanding of banking rules, regulations, laws and all policies and procedures pertaining to them.
- Demonstrate a willingness to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer information both inside and outside the bank
- Ability to exercise judgement, raise questions to management, and adhere to policy guidelines.
- Additional duties as assigned by manager.
Required Qualifications:
· 2+ years of finance or banking experience
· Knowledge of mortgage servicing and loan processing procedures
· Familiarity with TILA (Truth in Lending Act) regulations and compliance requirements
· Strong attention to detail and ability to review documents for errors or discrepancies
· Commitment and willingness to learn and grow.
· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
· Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
· Ability to effectively manage time and competing priorities, exercise independent judgment, and use critical thinking skills.
· Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, including MS Office & Windows.
Preferred Qualifications:
· 5+ years of finance or banking experience.
· 2+ years of loan processing or banking operations knowledge.
