Company Description

Standard Steel is a leading manufacturer of forged steel wheels and axles for freight railcars, locomotives and passenger railcars. It is the only producer of forged steel wheels for railcars and locomotives in North America. Customers include major Class I railroads in North America, freight railcar builders, railcar and locomotive maintenance shops, the Amtrak national railroad, locomotive builders and regional transit authorities.
Standard Steel, LLC, and its affiliated companies were purchased by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation in 2011, but the existing facility has been producing forgings since 1795. In 2012, Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. merged with Nippon Steel Corporation to become Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, the majority owner of Standard Steel.
Standard Steel's manufacturing plant is located at 500 North Walnut Street in Burnham, Pennsylvania.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Operates a Lift Truck equipped with a fork and/or ram attachment in transporting, positioning, or sorting materials, products, or equipment.
  • Utilizes auxiliary handling equipment, such as upenders, when necessary.
  • Maintains records of material and product movement.
  • Assists in making repairs and adjustments, cleaning, and lubricating equipment.
  • Keeps Lift Truck supplied with fuel, oil, and water and makes preventive maintenance inspection prior to operation.
  • Cleans and lubricates truck as necessary.
  • Reports to Foreman when truck requires repairs or adjustments.
  • Operates Lift Truck in a reasonable manner, consistent with safe operation, efficient utilization, and proper care for Team Members, materials, and equipment.
  • Required to pass Lift Truck Operator’s Test, be licensed, and be thoroughly familiar with published Book of Rules for Lift Truck Operators. Operates Lift Truck strictly according to published rules.

Qualifications required:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • 2 - 3 years forklift experience required.
  • Must be available to work all three shifts including overtime and weekends.
