DEFINITION: Public safety work in guarding the bathing and swimming public at a Town beach or pond; related work as required.
Examples Of Work:
- Watches and patrols a designated swimming area to assure the safety and welfare of those in the water and surrounding area.
- Maintains discipline and harmony among participants.
- Assists in general beach maintenance; cleans up debris; assumes responsibility for cleanliness and orderliness of beaches and ponds.
- Enforces rules and regulations pertaining to conduct and safety and keeping of scheduled hours.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 16 years old; demonstrated swimming and lifesaving ability as indicated by possession of a Lifeguard Training Red Cross Certificate with water front, Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate, and CPR Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer Certificate. Candidates must be able to swim 500 yards under 10 minutes. If candidates pass the swim test and are hired by the Recreation Dept. we will pay for to join an ARC Lifeguarding class.
